FSU lands DE Franklin Whitley ... third commitment in three days

Florida State landed another Edge rusher commitment on Tuesday as three-star prospect Franklin Whitley chose the Seminoles over South Carolina, Clemson and Alabama.

Whitley officially visited FSU a few weeks ago for the Seminoles’ matchup agianst Pitt. At the time, his recruitment was just starting to take off, and the ‘Noles were the first to get him on campus with an impressive offer list.

“This is my first official visit, so it’s obviously the best thing I’ve seen so far,” Whitley said at the time. “Just the transparency from the coaching staff, just seeing how they coach, seeing how they react off of a loss, it was a great experience.”

Other offers for Whitley include Florida, Georgia, Auburn and Tennessee. He had official visits scheduled to Alabama, Clemson and Florida in the coming weeks as well.

Whitley’s size is what makes him attractive to many schools. He stands at 6-foot-7 tall and weighs 265 pounds.

According to Rivals’ Industry Ranking, the South Carolina product is a top-500 player in the class, as well as the 53rd-ranked Edge and a top-10 prospect in South Carolina.

Whitley is Florida State’s third defensive commit in as many days, joining three-star LB/S Daylen Green and three-star Edge rusher Chris Carbin.
