Here's how we feel about Georgia football's 2023 Early Signing Day

Georgia football’s 2023 Early Signing Day lacked the drama you may be used to. That doesn’t mean it lacked DUDES, of course.

At the time of our recording, Travis Hunter still hadn’t made his transfer portal decision public via YouTube.

That marketing move from a fellow Collins Hill High School alum showed just how brilliant athletes can be in this new, wild and wooly NIL era.

Surprise, surprise. He picked Colorado.

Other than Hunter’s decision, the story of the day around these parts was Georgia’s #2 overall class in the On3 Consensus.

Yes, Nick Saban and Alabama still have quite the legacy.

But Kirby Smart‘s staff isn’t backing down, either. The Dawgs turned in yet another elite showing.

And when you factor in the chances to land at least Rara Thomas in the transfer portal – and Duce Robinson on the February signing day – these Dawgs ain’t done.

DawgsHQ also invites you to tune in to our LIVE analysis as the NLI’s came in on Wednesday morning (YouTube, Apple, Spotify)

There’s nothing like a late afternoon signing like Damon Wilson’s to end the Early Signing Day right

Kirby Smart landed a boatload of talent in this class.

No single player seems as College-Football-Ready as Damon Wilson, the #4 overall player in On3’s 2023 class.

(You can check out Wilson’s industry comparison metrics here.)

No matter where the experts rank him, he is special.

And after a ho-hum day of NLI’s flowing in Between the Hedges like a lazy Tanyard Creek babble, Wilson added a pop of excitement to this year’s haul.

He ought to have an opportunity to play right away with the wide-open opportunities ahead at Georgia’s EDGE Rusher position.

Who is Georgia’s most underrated / overlooked player in the class?

Someone left a comment on an episode of The Georgia Show recently that made me chuckle.

The sentiment was that our discussions prove one thing: The Dawgs just have a bunch of ‘first-world-problems.’

I try to avoid that when possible. But sometimes, that comment just rings truer that the Chapel Bell after a win over Tennessee in Athens.

Once again, we entered ‘first-world-problem’ territory by attempting to pick which poor three- or four-star just didn’t get enough acclaim in this class.

For every Damon Wilson, there’s a Peyton Woodring.

I kid – sort of – Woodring can boom it.

But I think you’ll enjoy the insight from Senior Editor Jake Rowe, DawgsHQ recruiting analyst Jake Reuse, team beat reporter Palmer Thombs and myself.

We also explore which position group the Dawgs probably could’ve filled out a little more.

We’ll be back with more after Christmas next week, leading up to Georgia’s CFP Semifinal Peach Bowl game against Ohio State.

Yes, the Dawgs actually have a game coming up. It’s been easy to forget after Stetson Bennett‘s Heisman push and Early Signing Day.

I don’t know about y’all, but I’m ready to see it.

Right after I eat too many Christmas cookies and have one too many Evan Williams Egg Nogs, of course.
