Georgia Football: Dawgs in the NFL (Week 14)

by:Jack Mathison12/12/22

Georgia Football may not have been in action this weekend, but that doesn’t mean that there weren’t plenty of Bulldogs to keep an eye on. This week especially, it’s pretty easy to see the effect that Kirby Smart has had on the National Football League with his former players tearing it up left and right. Here’s your Week 14 look at Dawgs in the NFL.

George Pickens

Despite his lack of involvement in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offense throughout the game, rookie wide receiver George Pickens made the incredible look easy this past weekend, bodying former Alabama cornerback Marlon Humphery on this sideline back-shoulder catch. Pickens was only targeted three times throughout the contest, hauling in each of them for a total of 78 yards.

Roquan Smith

While he’s still working on learning the Baltimore defense, former Bulldog and Chicago Bear Roquan Smith had a career day for the Ravens, putting up six tackles, a sack, and this ridiculous interception against Pickens and the Steelers.

Azeez Ojulari

While he has missed the majority of the 2022 season with a calf injury, second-year edge rusher Azeez Ojulari has come back in a big way for the New York Giants. In their divisional game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Ojulari totaled two sacks against former Alabama and Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Tyson Campbell

The young Jacksonville Jaguars’ defense is beginning to show flashes of domination, in part due to the emergence of cornerback Tyson Campbell. In the Jaguars’ 36-22 win over the Tennessee Titans, Campbell had three pass deflections, including this one which occurred on the first play of the game.

Travon Walker

In addition to Campbell, Travon Walker has not only proven that he was worth the No. 1 overall selection in the 2022 NFL Draft, but he’s become a force to be reckoned with throughout the NFL. Walker had three total tackles and two solo tackles, but also managed to make one of the plays of the game on this strip-sack of Ryan Tannehill.

Monty Rice

On the opposing sideline of the Jaguars-Titans divisional game, former Georgia linebacker Monty Rice stepped up in the absence of Tennessee’s starting linebacker David Long Jr. While the Titans were not able to secure the win, Rice made his presence felt with 12 total tackles, seven solo tackles, and a tackle for loss.
