Georgia outside linebacker Adam Anderson is under investigation by the Athens-Clarke County Police Department for rape allegations occurring on the morning of Friday, October 29, 2021. A police report has been filed by the victim. No charges have been filed nor has an arrest has been made.

Police Report

According to the case report, an Athens-Clarke County police officer was notified of a rape and wanted a report. “The victim stated that she went to a residence after having some drinks and awoke to the suspect penetrating her while she was lying (in) a bed.” She also stated that it was nonconsensual and that she was able to leave. No contact had been made with the suspect at the time of the report.

Team Responds

Anderson has reportedly missed practice this week, and according to ESPN’s Marc Schlabach, Georgia has suspended him indefinitely.

“We are aware of the report and we don’t comment on law enforcement matters, but I’ve been clear about the high standards we have for our student-athletes on and off the field,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said in a statement released on Thursday evening. “I will be working closely with our administration to ensure we cooperate fully with all law enforcement and campus protocols.”

Anderson’s Impact

Anderson, a senior, has played in every game since he first stepped foot on Georgia’s campus in Athens back in 2018. Simultaneously, the impact that he’s made has increased each year. In his first two seasons, the Rome, Ga. native combined for 22 total stops and 22 quarterback pressures. Then, as a junior, he tied for second on the team with 24 quarterback pressures as well as second for sacks with 6.5.

Two of his best games came during the 2020 season as Anderson helped Georgia beat Auburn and Cincinnati, both top-10 teams at the time the Bulldogs played them, with six quarterback pressures and two sacks in each game.

This season, as one of Georgia’s top two options in the outside linebacker room, Anderson has been a dominant force for the No. 1 ranked Georgia defense. He’s fifth on the team in tackles with 32 stops through eight games and leads the Bulldogs with 5.0 sacks. He posted career-highs for tackles in each of the last two games with six against Kentucky and seven versus Florida.
