Multiple sources have confirmed to DawgsHQ that Georgia early enrollee linebacker CJ Washington suffered an apparent injury to the shoulder/neck area during Thursday’s spring practice. The severity and exact injury is still unknown, but those same sources believe that Washington will be out through at least the remainder of the spring.

Georgia was already thin at the inside linebacker position this spring. Sophomore Smael Mondon is out after having surgery to repair a torn labrum while redshirt juniors Rian Davis and Trezmen Marshall are both limited in what they can do returning for injuries suffered in the fall. That left Jamon Dumas-Johnson, Xavian Sorey, Jalon Walker and Washington as the healthy options competing for playing time with the Bulldogs losing Nakobe Dean, Channing Tindall and Quay Walker to the NFL Draft. Now you can remove Washington from the equation.

Washington, an On3 Consensus four-star ranked No. 148 overall, No. 12 among players at his position and No. 13 in the state of Georgia, was selected to play in the 2022 Under Armour All-America Game after a senior season that saw him make 42 tackles including seven sacks and three tackles for loss. He also rushed for 1,032 yards on 137 carries with 14 touchdowns, catching a touchdown pass as well. His Cedartown Bulldogs went 11-2 and appeared in the GHSA Class 4A semifinals. The year before, he tallied 35 tackles including 10 tackles for loss and six sacks while forcing two fumbles and recovering one. Washington added impact on offense as well with 698 yards on 73 carries with 15 touchdowns. He was named to the Georgia Coaches Association Class 4A North All-State Defensive Team for a second straight season after doing it as a sophomore too.

Scouting Report on Washington: “Washington oozes athleticism at the linebacker position, having served as both a running back and defender for the Bulldogs of Cedartown in his high school career. It’s not hard to discern from his picture that he’s a physical freak, completely jacked and well built for the next level. We can likely credit some of that to his workout partner, Nick Chubb. Washington is explosive, aggressive, and physical from the linebacker position, and he’s got all the hallmarks of being a great one. I firmly believe he and Jalon Walker can be one of the great duos the Dawgs have fielded at the spot.” – Jake Reuse, DawgsHQ Recruiting Analyst
