Georgia inside linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson was arrested on Wednesday for drag racing and reckless driving and DawgsHQ has obtained the incident report that led to it. According to a report from the University of Georgia police departmant, an officer observed Dumas-Johnson and another vehicle racing but was unable to catch up to either one as they evaded police.

The officer says in his incident report that he was turning off Southview Drive from Agriculture drive at 8 p.m. ET on January 10, the day after Georgia took down TCU in the National Championship game. He saw two “newer model” Dodge Chargers at the intersection of East Campus Road and Southview.

When the light turned green, both vehicles began spinning their tires and racing down East Campus Road. The officer activated his sirens but couldn’t catch up to either vehicle despite accelerating to 75 miles per hour.

One of the vehicles turned on to the 10 Loop and the other continued ahead. The officer initially pursued the car that turned onto 10 Loop but when he determined that the car was intending to evade, he turned off his lights and stopped pursuing.

When getting off the loop at Lexington Road, the officer got behind a burgundy 2019 Charger that he suspected might be involved. He wasn’t sure and did not stop the vehicle but he did log the license plate and sent to dispatch.

The racing incident was caught on the UGA Campus Safety Camera System. The officer also had his Axon Flex camera on. Further investigation, presumably through video because it’s not stated explicitly in the report, found that Dumas-Johnson was the driver of one of the vehicles. A warrant was obtained for his arrest and he was contacted as soon as that warrant became active.

The officer left a message for the Georgia linebacker which was later returned. Dumas-Johnson was informed of the warrant and a request was made that he report to authorities. He turned himself in at the Athens-Clarke County jail on Wednesday and was released on $4,000 bond less than an hour later.

Dumas-Johnson is coming off his first full season as a starter where he finished second on the team in tackles. He led the team in tackles for loss with nine and finished second in sacks with four. He was also a finalist for the Butkus Award, an honor that goes annually to the nation’s top linebacker.

He signed with Georgia in the 2021 class as a four-star prospect out of St. Francis Academy in Baltimore, Maryland. Dumas-Johnson was the nation’s No. 239 overall prospect and No. 29 linebacker in that class per the industry-generated, equally-weighted On3 Consensus. He was the No. 12 prospect in Maryland.
