Stetson Bennett, just a few weeks removed from the end of his College Football career, had a little too much fun on Saturday night/Sunday Morning. The former Georgia quarterback was arrested on a public intoxication charge according to a report from WFAA News.

The arrest took place at 6 a.m. Sunday morning. It was as a result of a call made to police about a man banging on doors in Old East Dallas. Police confirmed the arrest to WFAA but did not say whether or not Bennett was the individual banging on doors.

Bennett and Georgia took down TCU in the National Championship game by a score of 65-7 on January 9. The former walk-on quarterback was named offensive MVP of that game, the second time in as many seasons he earned that distinction. Oddly enough, the place where Bennett was taken into custody is just 38 miles from the TCU campus.

Reese’s Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy said this week that Bennett turned down a chance to play in that game. While accepting the Manning Award last week, the ex-UGA signal caller made it known that he was preparing for the 2023 NFL Draft in Dallas.

Bennett leaves Georgia a legend…

The walk-on turned JUCO player who returned to Georgia in 2019 to be Jake Fromm’s backup. Bennett was thrust into action the following season when Jamie Newman opted out, JT Daniels wasn’t healthy enough to play, and D’Wan Mathis struggled mightily at quarterback to start the 2020 season.

Bennett started five games, going 3-2. He was hurt vs. Florida in the second of those two losses and Daniels took over. Daniels helped Georgia finish that season 4-0 and held the job all offseason. When Daniels battled core muscle injuries early in the 2021 season, Bennett stepped in and never looked back.

After helping Georgia to a National Championship in 2021, the Blackshear, Ga. native returned to Athens for his sixth and final season of college ball. He proceeded to break the UGA single-season record for passing yards in a season and became the first quarterback in program history to throw for 4,000 yards in a season.

His time at Georgia ended with him having accounted for 80 total touchdowns with 66 through the air and 14 on the ground. He appeared in six postseason games as a Bulldog — two SEC Championship games, two College Football Playoff semifinals and two National Championships — and won offensive MVP in five of those. That includes a clean sweep of the 2022 postseason as Georgia beat LSU, Ohio State, and TCU in the final three games to go 15-0.
