In-state defensive lineman Will Lockhart has made his college decision. The 6-foot-4, 240-pound senior from Denver High School in Northeast Iowa announced that he will be attending the University of Iowa and joining the Hawkeyes as a preferred walk-on.

A standout on both sides of the ball, Lockhart finished his senior year with 37 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks for head coach Rhett Barrett at Denver.

“I was glad to be offered this opportunity to be a preferred walk-on at Iowa,” Lockhart told HawkeyeReport.com. “I am excited to represent the town of Denver and what Coach Barrett instilled in me as a football player and most of all as a student.”

During the recruiting process, Lockhart drew interest from Iowa, Iowa State, North Dakota State, South Dakota, and Northern Iowa, and earned scholarship offers from St. Thomas, Peru State, Upper Iowa, and Grand View.

Lockhart, who also plays rugby and runs a 4.9 forty, will be competing a State Track this week in the discus. This spring, he has broken school records at Denver in both the discus (164-8) and the shot put (50-0.5).
