Kansas State has added its first transfer of the 2024 cycle. Former Michigan guard Dug McDaniel has committed to the Wildcats and is the first addition of the offseason after already having five departures in exiting transfers Cam Carter, Dorian Finister and Jerrell Colbert and two graduating seniors in Will McNair and Tylor Perry.

The announcement from the guard comes on the heels of an official visit to K-State. His official visit was the second of the cycle for The Wildcats. Ironically, another former Wolverine in Tarris Reed took a visit to Kansas State just before McDaniel.

Like all transfer portal recruitments, it was extremely quick between the Wildcats and McDaniel. The guard entered the transfer portal March 18 and K-State was involved shortly afterwards and even visited him in Ann Arbor.

Kansas State assistant coach Jareem Dowling and head coach Jerome Tang were two of the coaches that met with McDaniel and his family before his trip to Manhattan.

The Washington D.C. native also took an official visit to TCU just before his time at K-State. Local schools Georgetown and Maryland were also exploring the idea of adding McDaniel. It was the relationship McDaniel made in a short time with both Dowling and Tang that sent Kansas State over the top.

Remember, Dowling has many connections in the D.C. area.

In his two seasons for Michigan the guard was very productive. As a freshman in 2022 he averaged 8.6 points per game and 3.6 assists while shooting 35 percent from three-point range. This past season the sophomore averaged 16.3 points per game along with 4.7 assists and improved his three-point shooting to 36.8 percent.

His 16.3 points per game led the Wolverines this season and ranked No. 9 in the Big Ten. The 4.7 assists also led Michigan and ranked No. 7 in the Big Ten.

Landing McDaniel is a major recruiting win for K-State. According to the On3 Industry Rankings (a combination of all four recruiting services), he is the No. 13 player in the transfer portal and No. 2 point guard. He will arrive in Manhattan with two years of eligibility remaining.
