WATCH: Mark Stoops after Kentucky's sixth spring practice

Saturday morning Kentucky finished up their sixth spring practice for 2021 and the defense was able to get the upper-hand on the offense. However, the head football coach started the media session by showing his respects to a recently passed Kentucky legend.
“I’d like to start with sending my condolences to the family and friends of coach Howard Schnellenberger. We lost a great person and a great coach in Coach Schnellenberger. Got his start as an All-American and a great football player at the University of Kentucky, assistant coach, and of course, he went on to have a great career as a head coach.”

On the practice field, the Kentucky Wildcats appear to be making some quality steps forward.
“We’re making progress. Really felt like defense stepped up again today. Did a much better job. I felt like Thursday offense had a lot of explosive plays, got the ball down the field quite a bit. Today, defensively got back on track. Had a good day. I continue to see improvement offensively.”
Elsewhere, Stoops revealed that veteran offensive tackle Naasir Watkins is not back from injury, Clevan Thomas continues to impress the coaching staff and the nose tackle position may be the most important spot on the defense.
