LSU head coach Kim Mulkey and the Tigers have handed out a big offer in the 2024 recruiting class to Me’Arah O’Neal, the daughter of one of the most recognizable athletes in program history

On Wednesday, O’Neal landed a verbal offer from the LSU coaching staff.

O’Neal is the daughter of LSU legend Shaquille O’Neal.

The Tigers are on the road evaluating prospects, and the offer to O’Neal is one of the first handed out this week.

O’Neal grabs an offer after visiting LSU this offseason

LSU head coach Kim Mulkey and the Tigers finished the 2022-23 regular season with 27 wins and just one loss, which came at No. 1 South Carolina.

While the Tigers fell short of the SEC Tournament Championship and a rematch with the Gamecocks, LSU let March Madness tell the tale.

In her second season with the program, Mulkey led the LSU to a National Championship – the first on the men’s or women’s side in program history.

LSU tied the best regular season record in program history, a massive turnaround from the 9-13 record the Tigers had the season prior to Mulkey’s arrival two years ago. The paid attendance for the regular season finale was 15,721 – an all-time Pete Maravich Assembly Center record.

Among those in the crowd: Me’Arah O’Neal.

Two months later, she’s landed an offer from the staff.

LSU continues to stack up elite talent

While the Tigers have yet to add any commitments for the 2024 cycle, Mulkey and the Tigers made a big splash in the 2023 cycle with the No. 1 recruiting class in America.

The group includes four players ranked inside the ESPN HoopGurlz Top 100, including two in the Top 10 in Parkway High (Bossier City, La.) guard Mikaylah Williams and Webb School (Bell Buckle, Tenn.) post player Aalyah Del Rosario.

O’Neal, a junior at Episcopal High in Dallas (Texas), is ranked by ESPN’s HoopGurlz as a four-star and the No. 42 overall prospect in the country for the 2024 class.

O’Neal was joined on her Baton Rouge visit this spring by her father.

O’Neal has already sent two of his children to LSU for basketball. Amirah O’Neal accepted a preferred walk-on spot coming out of high school before transferring to Texas Southern. Shareef O’Neal spent two seasons at LSU from 2020-2022 after beginning his college career at UCLA.

O’Neal’s unofficial visit to Baton Rouge included not just a game in the PMAC, but photo shoots, time spent with players on the team, meetings with Mulkey and the staff, and more.

O’Neal now has offers from Tennessee, Florida, Cal and Virginia. The verbal offers from the trio of SEC schools all came over the past 24 hours.
