LSU head coach Kim Mulkey and assistant coach Gary Redus are in attendance tonight for Aaliyah Chavez’ first round playoff game in Lubbock, Texas. Chavez is the No. 1 player in the country for the 2025 class and someone LSU has continued to recruit and she is likely to visit Baton Rouge once her high school season ends.

Chavez’ top ten includes Arizona, LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Texas Tech, UCLA, and USC.

“I just want to thank all the coaches for their time invested into recruiting me on this journey,” Chavez wrote in the post. “After much consideration me and my family have come down to a list of my top 10 schools.”

Chavez’ Lubbock Monterey team is 29-5 and faces Caprock. Chavez averages 38.4 points, 10.3 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 3.4 steals per game as a junior. For her career, Chavez is averaging 31 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 5.5 assists, consistently proving herself as the top prospect in the nation according to ESPN HoopGurlz’ rankings.

LSU signed the No. 1 class in the 2023 cycle with stars like Mikaylah Williams and Aalyah Del Rosario and currently has one commitment for the 2024 cycle in Louisiana guard Jada Richard. Both Mulkey and Redus have been aggressive on the recruiting trail since arriving at LSU and now have their sights set on another top prospect.

Redus is revered as one of the top assistants in women’s college basketball and Mulkey has experience recruiting Texas from her time at Baylor. Chavez is someone who is at the top of LSU’s board entering this next cycle and the plan is to host her on a visit soon.

LSU has some of the top targets in 2025 set to visit this year, including Chavez, Jasmine Davidson, Zakiyah Johnson, among others. Read the latest intel here.
