LSU assistant coach Casey Long and head coach Matt McMahon had a busy weekend in Bryan, Texas watching players at the Adidas 3SSB event. Moving court to court evaluating players and seeing who stood out for the 2024 cycle, but there was one player they wanted to get a better gauge on.

Devon Pryor, a 6-foot-7 wing from Houston, Texas was on the top of their list of players to watch. On Saturday, McMahon got his eyes on Pryor and saw first-hand why his recruitment has taken off.

With his frame and skillset, Pryor is dripping with potential. On One Time Legends, he checks all the boxes on both ends and is only getting better. His head coach Tracy McGrady stays in his ear throughout games and the improvement even shows itself from half to half.

McMahon officially offered Pryor on Saturday evening, putting LSU in the mix with Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, and Sam Houston State, on a list that is quickly growing.

“[The recruiting process] has been great,” Pryor said. “I’ve picked up interest from some big schools. I just picked up an offer from LSU. The coaches came to see me and I’m just here to show my game and what I provide.”

For Pryor, this offer held some weight. With his connection to the state of Louisiana, he knows LSU is going to be somewhere he’ll have to consider in the coming months.

“Louisiana is in my blood, so it hits home,” Pryor said. “I’m pretty excited about that one. My dad is from Shreveport and I’m down there a lot, so it’s like a second home to me.”

Closing the weekend strong

After McMahon offered Pryor on Saturday, it was Long’s turn to watch him on Sunday.

Pryor’s One Time Legends team faced off with Team Lillard in their final game of the weekend. One Time Legends entered the game 3-0 over the past two days, but Team Lillard jumped out to a 23-point lead in the first half. Pryor and his team were unable to find their footing.

Slowly, One Time Legends chipped away, Pryor made an incredible block, pinning a shot to the backboard, then hit two 3-pointers, and helped pull his team back to a 70-68 win.

“It just took energy,” Pryor said. “We had a few turnovers. We weren’t getting into our offense like we’re supposed to. Defense we had better energy, but it was just about making them miss shots. At halftime, coach told us it’s a slow grind and they’re going to get tired. At the end of the day, we came through with the win.

“That one shot just got me going. I just needed to see the ball go through the basket and everything felt good at the end of the day.”

It was a successful weekend for Pryor, going 4-0 and impressing the LSU coaching staff on his way to a new offer.
