LSU hosted Miamisburg (Ohio) tight end Jackson McGohan for an official visit this weekend and the Tigers got good news on Tuesday from him.

The three-star prospect announced his commitment to LSU on Monday though, giving offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock a second 2023 tight end commitment.

“Relationships, people,” McGohan told On3 of why he picked LSU. “I loved Baton Rouge. It was really fun. The people (stood out most). My whole time down there I didn’t encounter a single unkind person. It was a really good experience, especially coming from the Midwest.”

The official visit really sealed the deal for him thanks to the culture and people around the program.

“When I first got there, I was pretty much just amazed by the culture,” McGohan said. “Definitely a culture shock. I was just expecting it to be a big business, but honestly, it was just a big relationship. They’re awesome there. Love all the coaches. Got to connect with all the coaches, some of the players, some of the commits, all that type of stuff. It was really fun.”

LSU needs a tight end like Jackson McGohan

Denbrock had a relationship with McGohan when he was a Cincinnati commitment. The pair are now reunited and McGohan’s excited about the future with him.

“It’s always been awesome. He’s a really good guy, he knows what he’s doing,” McGohan said. “I definitely trust him and he trusts me. They told me that since I’m more of a receiving tight end, the offense could definitely expand a lot. I’ll be playing the Y spot, making plays for them.”

Head coach Brian Kelly connected well with his message, too.

“He was a really nice guy,” he said. “His goal is graduate champions. He wants to obviously win that National Championship. We talked personally a few times and he’s a really good guy. He definitely knows what he’s doing.”

Now a member of the 2023 class, McGohan bonded with a future teammate of his, long snapper Slade Roy.

“He was a really awesome guy,” McGohan said. “He was similar where he came and he wasn’t born and raised in Louisiana. He transferred from ECU. He’s been here a year and he absolutely loves it. I can definitely trust him and me and him are very similar, I would say. I’m excited.”

Jackson McGohan will now sign with the Tigers during the early signing period. In addition to LSU, McGohan holds offers from Auburn, Miami, Iowa, Oklahoma and others.

According to On3, McGohan ranks as the No. 26 overall tight end in the nation and No. 15 prospect in Ohio.
