Michigan State has moved its season opener against Florida Atlantic University to Friday night on August 30, at 7:00 pm. The game was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday of Labor Day Weekend.

The Friday night kickoff for the season opener is consistent with scheduling over the course of the last decade, where Michigan State has played on Friday night of the holiday weekend.

Michigan State announced the schedule change on Thursday afternoon in a social media post on X that included game times for its first three football games.

In addition to playing FAU on Friday night of Labor Day Weekend, the Spartans will play at Maryland one week later with a 3:30 kickoff. After a road game in College Park, MD, the Spartans return home on Sept. 14 for a 3:30 pm game against Prairie View AM on Sept. 14.

After playing Prairie View, Michigan State returns to the road for a non-conference game at Boston College (Sept. 21). The Spartans also play Ohio State (Sept. 28), at Oregon (Oct. 4), Iowa (Oct. 19), at Michigan (Oct. 26), Indiana (Nov. 2), at Illinois (Nov. 16), Purdue (Nov. 22), and Rutgers (Nov. 29).

Including the season opener, Michigan State will play a total of three games during the 2024 season on Friday Night. The Spartans will also play a Friday night road game at Oregon on October 4 and home game against Purdue on November 22.

Those Friday night games against Oregon and Purdue are among nine Big Ten conference games that will be aired nationally on Fox Friday Primetime. Michigan State, UCLA, Purdue, and Oregon are the only Big Ten programs that will play twice on Friday Night against conference opponents.

Big Ten match-ups will account for nine of the 12 slotted Friday Night primetime match-ups on Fox during the 2024 football season.
