Michigan State to play Oregon on the road in Friday night match-up
Michigan State will play a pair of Big Ten football games on Fox Friday Primetime beginning with a road game at Oregon on October 4. The Spartans will also play under the lights at Spartan Stadium against Purdue on November 22.
Both of those games were originally scheduled to be played on Saturday. A Friday night game at home against Purdue will not take too much of an adjustment, but playing a road game in Eugene, Ore., on a Friday is a bit more problematic given that Oregon is more than 2,000 miles away from East Lansing.
Michigan State has its bye week following its road match-up at Oregon on Oct. 4. Michigan State plays at Oregon one week after facing Ohio State on the road in Columbus.
A total of nine Big Ten games will be played on Fox Friday Primetime during conference play, with each of those games being televised at 8:00 pm. Michigan State, UCLA, Purdue, and Oregon are the only Big Ten programs that will play twice on Fox Friday Primetime against conference opponents this season.
Nebraska, Illinois, Southern Cal, Maryland, Washington, Rutgers and Iowa each play once in Friday night primetime games on Fox.
Nebraska plays Rutgers (Sept. 20) in the first Big Ten match-up Fox Friday Primetime game of the 2024 season. Other match-ups include Washington at Rutgers (Sept. 27), Northwestern at Maryland (Oct. 11), Oregon at Purdue (Oct. 18), Rutgers at USC (Oct. 25), Iowa at UCLA (Nov. 8), and UCLA at Washington (Nov. 15).
Washington is the only Big Ten program that will have to play Fox Friday Primetime games in back-to-back weeks. The Huskies, however, will not have to travel a significant distance when they play former Pac-12 rival UCLA.
Michigan, Minnesota, Penn State, Wisconsin, and Indiana will not play in Fox Friday Primetime games during 2024 season.
Big Ten match-ups will account for nine of the 12 slotted Fox Friday Primetime match-ups on Fox during the 2024 football season, with Michigan State appearing in two of those nine Big Ten slots. Fox Friday Primetime kicks off in mid-September with a Big XII match-up between Kansas State and Arizona, which joined the Big XII conference after the dissolution of the Pac-12. Fox Friday Primetime will also air Utah, another former Pac-12 program, against UCF on November 29. The Mountain West Championship Game will wrap up its slate of Friday night games on Fox one week following Utah vs. UCF.
Michigan State opens its 2024 football season at home against Florida Atlantic (Aug. 31), followed by Maryland (Sept. 7), Prairie View (Sept. 14), at Boston College (Sept. 21), Ohio State (Sept. 28), at Oregon (Oct. 4), Iowa (Oct. 19), at Michigan (Oct. 26), Indiana (Nov. 2), at Illinois (Nov. 16), Purdue (Nov. 22), and Rutgers (Nov. 29).
