Michigan State starting quarterback Katin Houser plans to enter his name into NCAA transfer portal, according to On3’s Pete Nakos. The redshirt freshman will have three years of eligibility remaining.

“I’m not really looking too much into the future, to be honest,” Houser said following the Spartans’ win over Indiana. “We don’t know anything so we can’t really do anything about it as far as (the coaching search). I feel like we just have to go out and give 100 percent this last game. That’s the only thing we can do and that’s what we’re going to do.”

Houser replaced Noah Kim as Michigan State’s starting quarterback following the Spartans’ 26-16 week five loss to Iowa. The former highly-touted recruit started Michigan State’s seven remaining games.

In those seven starts, Houser completed 58.6 percent of his passes, throwing six touchdowns and four interceptions. Houser threw an additional interception in Michigan State’s 31-9 week four defeat to Maryland.

Houser signed with Michigan State as a member of its 2022 recruiting class, a class that finished No. 25 in the nation, according to the 2022 On3 Team Rankings.

As a recruit, the 6-foot-3, 215-pound quarterback originally committed to Boise State before backing off his pledge and choosing Michigan State. The Anaheim, Calif., native held numerous offers from West Coast teams, including Washington State, Arizona, Oregon State, Colorado, Washington and more.

Houser—a four-star prospect out of high school—was ranked the No. 210 overall recruit, the No. 13 quarterback and the No. 16 recruit in the state of California, per the 2022 On3 Industry Rankings.

Houser was one of just 12 quarterbacks to compete in the class of 2022 Elite 11 Finals, where he put on a strong performance, earning him a ratings increase across all three major recruiting sites.
