The Wolverine's Ej Holland Breaks Down 5 Michigan Football Recruits He Has Ranked Higher Than On3

The spring evaluation period is underway, and the Michigan coaching staff will hit the road to see top recruits on Monday. After several weeks of hosting prospects in Ann Arbor, the Wolverines will continue garnering momentum on the trail before the summer official visits slate.

The Wolverine examines the five targets in the 2025 recruiting class who stepped foot on campus earlier this spring and where Michigan currently stands, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, the industry’s first algorithm and machine learning-based product to predict where athletes will attend college.

Five-star OT Andrew Babalola, Overland Park (Kans.) Blue Valley Northwest

On3 Ranking: No. 14 Overall, No. 4 Offensive Tackle, No. 1 in Kansas
RPM: Kansas State (25.5%), Oklahoma (22.3%), Nebraska (9.8%), Michigan (4.3%)
U-M Visit: March 22
He Said It: “I love the culture there. With Coach Moore being an O-line guy and Coach Newsome playing offensive line at Michigan, the culture is great. You can just feel it a practice, you can feel it talking to the players, you can feel it around campus. I love the culture at Michigan.”

Andrew Babalola was the lone five-star in this cycle who visited Michigan in the spring. His trip was the first since he received an offer this past fall. Born in Metro Detroit, Babalola brought his family to watch practice and meet with the staff. Along with head coach Sherrone Moore, a fellow Kansas native, Babalol had in-depth meetings with newly hired offensive line coach Grant Newsome. The pair of coaches have relayed the priority status that the reigning national champions have put on Babalola, who’s intrigued about joining a unit that won back-to-back Joe Moore Awards. Working towards scheduling an official visit for later in the spring is the next step, as Oklahoma, Tennessee, Auburn, Texas A&M, and others are also in contention.

Top 100 WR Quincy Porter, Oradell (N.J.) Bergen Catholic

On3 Ranking: No. 31 Overall, No. 5 Wide Receiver, No. 1 in New Jersey
RPM: Michigan (24.3%), Rutgers (14.4%), Penn State (12.3%), Ohio State (10.3%)
U-M Visit: April 4
He Said It: “It’s definitely a school I’m highly interested in. Just speaking to Coach Bellamy and Coach Moore and being up there multiple times is a big plus, too.”

Quincy Porter is coming off a junior campaign in which he totaled 48 catches for 1,066 yards and 16 touchdowns. His expanded catch radius, bigger-bodied frame, hands, and route-running ability have appealed to Michigan extensively. Wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy has established a close relationship with Porter, who’s been to Ann Arbor three times since July of last year. The Wolverines are the leader on the RPM because they’ve hosted Porter the most out of any other school on his offer sheet. It’s a slight advantage, with Ohio State, Florida, Penn State, and Florida State also welcoming the 6-foot-3, 190-pounder to their respective campus this offseason. A planned cut of Porter’s offer is expected to occur soon.

Top 100 Safety Jordan Young, Monroe (N.C.) High

On3 Ranking: No. 36 Overall, No. 2 Safety, No. 3 in North Carolina
RPM: Clemson (25.3%), NC State (18.5%), Tennessee (12.8%), Michigan (2.9%)
U-M Visit: April 15

Jordan Young recently picked up a Michigan offer just weeks before he traveled to Ann Arbor for his first-ever appearance inside Schembechler Hall. Defensive backs coach LaMar Morgan extended the offer and has been in close contact this spring. An aggressive pursuit of the nation’s No. 2 safety nationally from Morgan led to Young flying north to watch camp practice and develop a rapport with the entire staff. Of the four official visits set by Young leading up to the summer dead period, all of whom are located in the country’s southern region – Tennessee, N.C. State, Clemson, and Florida State. The Wolverines are also vying to enter the fray following last week’s unofficial.

Top 100 OT Douglas Utu, Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman

Industry Ranking: No. 46 Overall, No. 3 Offensive Tackle, No. 1 in Nevada
RPM: USC (30.5%), Nebraska (26.7%), Michigan (12.0%), Ohio State (10.0%)
U-M Visit: March 30

Douglas Utu has a former Bishop Gorman teammate currently signed to Michigan in 2024 running back Micah Ka’apana. Two of his current offensive lineman teammates, SJ Alofaituli and Alai Kalaniuvalu, visited Ann Arbor in late November for the game against Ohio State. Utu’s first time on campus was a weekend with a litany of high-profile trench maulers checking out practice. The Wolverines are looking to get Utu around the facilities again later this June for an official visit. Overall development on the offensive line is standing out considerably for Utu and his family, with Moore being a constant throughout the junior’s recruitment. Other offseason visits taken by Utu are those to USC and Nebraska. Ohio State hosted him for a game in the fall.

Top 100 RB Bo Jackson, Cleveland (Ohio) Villa Angela-St. Joseph

Industry Ranking: No. 68 Overall, No. 4 ATH, No. 4 in Ohio
RPM: Ohio State (33.0%), Penn State (19.4%), Michigan (8.5%), Kentucky (7.1%)
U-M Visit: March 24
He Said It: “I have a handful of schools I’m seriously considering and Michigan is there.”

Bo Jackson‘s return visit to Michigan in late March was the first since June when he participated in a team-hosted camp. The Wolverines appeared to be on the outside looking in for the two-way star. However, due to the hiring of running backs coach Tony Alford, who had a preexisting relationship with Jackson, the latter has mentioned that the program is back in the running after the spring trip. The other schools that Jackson is considering include Ohio State, Kentucky, Penn State, Georgia, and Alabama. The Buckeyes are trending on the RPM following six unofficial visits taken to Columbus by Jackson since March of 2022. Alford is pushing to land an elite tailback this cycle, and Jackson is among those at the forefront.
