Michigan basketball coach Juwan Howard and his staff currently have one pledge in the sophomore class — Atlanta guard Christian Anderson, who committed last October. He had a big year at Lovett High School, averaging 30 points per game.

Though not big (only 5-9), Anderson is a deadly shooter and one of the best in any class. He has legitimate range to 30 feet and should continue to grow. His father played professionally at 6-6, and if Anderson adds some size, On3.com’s Jamie Shaw told us, he’s likely a top 50 prospect.

“He is a jet-quick, confident point guard,” Shaw told us. “He gets to his spots in the halfcourt and his range extends out to 30 feet.

“While the size will come into question, the competitive fire is there. He has put up some monster numbers recently.”

The MaxPreps sophomore All-American led his CP3 EYB AAU squad to an 8-0 showing in their first two 16U sessions on the Nike EYBL (Elite Youth Basketball League) circuit. They’ve qualified for Peach Jam, the top Nike AAU event of the summer (held in July), and he’s a big reason why.

“He’s small, but he’s got the quick twitch and is very confident,” Shaw said of the Michigan pledge. “If he does grow, he’s a top 50 player in the country in his class. He gets in the paint, has great footwork, finds space for his shot. He can do all that stuff.”

He’s done plenty of it in high school and on the EYBL circuit. Though his team is loaded, Anderson still gets opportunities to shine — at times. He made five of six triples in his first EYBL game in Indianapolis last month, scoring 15 points. He’s averaged 16 points and three assists per game in eight EYBL games and shot a remarkable 22-for-38 (60 percent) from long range.

And by long range, we mean out-to-the-logo range. He’s a “killer,” and if he grows, he’ll be one of the elite players in his class.

The future Michigan point guard played well since the last EYBL session, as well.

Michigan head coach Juwan Howard and assistant Saddi Washington stopped by his school April 19 and are keeping close tabs on their future point guard. He is “100 percent” with Michigan.

Michigan continues to offer other 2024 standouts, as well. The Wolverines have extended offers to big man John Bol of St. Louis Christian Brothers and in-state guard Durral Brooks out of Grand Rapids, Mich.

The 2024 class should be a big one. Michigan will likely take three in the 2023 class, depending on what happens with their underclassmen and that transfer portal.
