The spring and early summer period is a popular time for evaluating and ranking (or re-ranking) prospects. Not only is it important to evaluate the younger prospects to project the future but also the older prospects to accurately reflect growth and development. This is the case for two Michigan pledges, who have bolstered their stock this spring.

On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings, Charles Power, named 10 recruits who are ascending in the class of 2023, possibly helping their rankings. Both Tallahassee (Fla.) Lincoln linebacker Raylen Wilson and Dexter (Mich.) running back Cole Cabana cracked the list.

The list is based on spring ball, prospect camps, and track season performances.

Charles Power on Raylen Wilson:

Raylen Wilson has shown considerable physical growth over the course of the off-season. The Michigan pledge measured at 6-foot-1.5 and over 215 pounds this spring. Wilson has added at least one inch and added over 10 pounds to his growing frame. He’s gotten faster, as well. Wilson posted a 10.91 second mark in the 100 meters this spring (cutting a few tenths off his prior best time) and later won his district meet. The gains showed up on the field this spring at Tallahassee Lincoln, with Wilson making some highly impressive athletic plays in pursuit.

He’s also adding play strength, evident in his ability to take on blocks as a run defender. If the spring was any indication, the NFL legacy looks like one of the more athletic and ascending prospects at the position nationally. The growth makes sense as well, when you consider Wilson is much younger than most 2023 prospects and doesn’t turn 17-years-old until July.”

Charles Power on Cole Cabana:

Cole Cabana has had a nice offseason. He’s posted several sub-11.0 second marks in the 100 meters and posted a 10.55 second time last weekend. Cabana has also showed off some versatility and pass-catching skills in 7-on-7 settings. The Dexter (Mich.) High star currently checks as the highest-ranked three-star running back prospect in On3’s rankings. If the spring is any indication, he could ultimately push for a fourth star.”

June will be a crucial month for Michigan as they work to keep Raylen Wilson in the fold. Georgia and Florida are both threats. He will officially visit both schools this month. Michigan will host Wilson on an official visit later in June. Wilson ranks as the No. 6 linebacker and No. 75 overall recruit, per the On3 Consensus.

Cole Cabana has not yet scheduled an official visit to Michigan but is expected to make one. He does not have any other visits scheduled to any schools. Cabana ranks as a four star prospect and No. 12 running back in the On3 Consensus, but remains a three-star in the On3 rankings.
