2027 wing prospect David Verdell opened a lot of eyes last season as a sophomore at Columbus High School. This summer Verdell has continued that momentum on the Puma circuit.

Verdell has also displayed his versatility, as well, this offseason.

“I am with SipUnited on the Puma circuit,” Verdell explained. “I’ve been playing anywhere from shooting guard to power forward. If you watch my high school film, you get to see my development more. Because with SipUnited, I don’t get to use it that much because we are more guard-heavy.”

In particular, Verdell has focused on a few areas of his game this summer. And he wants to keep showcasing those talents when his junior season at Columbus rolls around.

“My ball-handling has gotten better, though, this summer,” added the 6-foot-6 and 185-pound Verdell. “My shot has gotten more consistent, too. I’ve also been working on my physicality and defense a lot, too. My defense has really improved.”

At the college level, Verdell has collected several early offers. He also noted of programs that have expressed interest in him, of late.

“So far I have offers from Mississippi State, Louisiana, McNeese State, Tennessee State and Jackson State,” remarked Verdell. “Then I’ve been getting interest from Southern Miss, LSU, Arkansas State and UAB.”

Mississippi State was Verdell’s first offer and he collected that offer last year. He mentioned his relationship with Bulldog assistant George Brooks and his communication with the staff.

“It’s been good with Mississippi State,” shared Verdell. “They’ve been in good contact with me and I am just trying to see where time takes me. Coach George Brooks is my guy and he is the main one that talks to me. Everything is great so far.”

Verdell has watched State’s program closely over the past year or so. And he singled out what he loves about Chris Jans’ program.

“I love their program,” Verdell noted of State. “I love how defensive-heavy they are. I know they’ve been working on improving their offensive game, too, with all of the transfers they are getting. I think I would be a good fit for Mississippi State. I am long and lengthy, and hopefully stronger by that time. I can get up and down the floor, too.”

For now, Verdell is focused on his upcoming season and making more improvements to his game. So he is not in a rush when it comes to his recruiting process.

“I am not really worried about my decision,” Verdell mentioned. “If I had to say right now, though, it will probably be around my senior season when i make that decision.”
