Mississippi State Running Back Seth Davis (1)

Mississippi State running back Seth Davis recently met with the media to discuss the team’s previous game against Arkansas and the week ahead in preparation for Saturday’s game against the Auburn Tigers.

Q: Kind of take us through your fumble play from this past weekend and how you felt?
Davis: I’m not going to lie, at first I was scared, but then I felt the ball on my foot, so I just knew I had to get back on it, so that’s what I did.

Q: Those few moments when they’re reviewing that call, what was going through your mind?

Davis: I was just like ‘Dang, there’s no way I did this. Come on, I can’t do this next time.’ I’ve got to have it high and tight next time.

Q: You’ve been here since January and had a great camp. Was there a moment you thought ‘Hey, I’m going to be able to get some good snaps’ as a true freshman?

Davis: Yeah, right when we got to fall camp, and then I started doing good in practice. That’s when I knew. I was like ‘alright, I’m not going to get to redshirt. Nah, they’re going to throw me in.’

Q: How do you use that underdog mentality to fuel you and get where you want to go?

Davis: Yeah, it just makes me work harder, because everyone talks about size and all of that, but you see like Deuce Vaughn and all of them, he’s small too. It’s all about his work ethic and how he plays football.

Q: What is it like getting to learn from a guy like Woody (Marks)?

Davis: It’s great. He’s a hard worker. (He’s got) work ethic, and then also you get to see how he runs the ball. He runs hard every play, so all you can do is learn from him.

Q: It always felt like Saturday could have gone either way throughout, what’s it like on the sideline when a game is that tight?

Davis: It just has us on edge. We’ve got to be ready for anything that happens and just do our best when we get to go in.

Q: Your dad was a semi-pro player, what was his influence on you?

Davis: Yeah, he brought me into football at an early age, and I’ve been loving it ever since, so I use his football knowledge in my game, too, and it’s been great.

Q: Was he hard on you as a coach when you were younger?

Davis: Ah, he didn’t coach me too hard. You know, he’s still my dad, so he’d tell me what I do bad, then what I do good, so it was good when he coached me.

Q: What’s it like getting mentally prepared to go on the road in the SEC?

Davis: Personally, I love going away and playing at other people’s stadiums. It puts adversity on me, so you’ve just got to go out there and play hard and come out fast.
