Notre Dame landing former Wake Forest quarterback Sam Hartman is regarded as arguably the top transfer acquisition this offseason. The betting markets’ early 2023 Heisman odds expect him to be one of the country’s best players, transfer or not.

Hartman is +1200 to win the 2023 Heisman trophy, according to BetOnline. That is tied for the fourth-best odds of any FBS player. North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye (+500) has the highest odds, followed by USC quarterback and 2022 Heisman winner Caleb Williams (+550) and Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis (+1000).

Hartman, Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. and Oregon quarterback Bo Nix are all +1200. LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels, Tennessee quarterback Joe Milton and Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord are +2000, the next-highest odds behind Hartman.

At FanDuel, Hartman has the sixth-best odds to win the Heisman (+1800). That’s behind Williams (+400), Maye (+1000), Penix (+1200), Nix (+1200) and Travis (+1200).

Hartman transferred to Notre Dame for his sixth and final season of college football. He threw for 12,967 yards, 110 touchdowns and 41 interceptions in five seasons with the Demon Deacons. He made 46 career starts and set the ACC record for career touchdown passes.
