Sooners Starting to Make Moves?

The Sooner Scoop – September 26, 2025
Attention Ladies and Gentleman, I have an urgent and breaking Sooners news story!
One of the interesting storylines starting to emerge for Oklahoma is what’s happening around college football and how the Sooners are able to respond. In simplest terms, as teams start to struggle and recruiting classes begin to become more in danger there are old names that may pop back up on the radar.
No player seems more worthy of that conversation than Frisco (Texas) Lone Star standout receiver Davian Groce. The explosive talent chose Florida over Oklahoma in the very last seconds of his decision over a month ago. But it has never felt like the door was fully closed on the Sooners.
“He’s always had a soft spot for Oklahoma,” a source said.
What’s been most unusual in his story is Groce hadn’t played a game yet this season, until last night, where he went bananas with 215 yards receiving and two touchdowns on nine receptions.
Some had discussed that the Sooners might be on hand and though they weren’t, Scoop is keeping a close eye on Oklahoma having a real chance here.
Receiver Offer Amazed by Makeup of Sooners
Forney (Texas) North Forney wide receiver Briceson Thrower made his second trip to Norman in the last 3 weekends when he watched the Sooners down Auburn 24-17. He made the trip with his uncle and brother and said his impression of Oklahoma was aided by just how hard the entire program works.
“It was pretty cool. It never ceases to amaze me at the effort and talent at OU and the coaching staff, it was a great game,” Thrower said.
Top Texas Offensive Lineman Impressed by OU’s D-Line
Though a young player there’s plenty of recruiting buzz already around Converse (Texas) Judson offensive lineman Jai’Storm Knight. The 2028 prospect made his first trip to Norman and says that the fanbase caught his attention.
“My true takeaway honestly was the atmosphere in the stadium. It was my first time being there and the experience of the crowd yelling ‘OU’ at the loudest they can was a great experience,” Knight said. “Also, the players, especially the defense, giving their all and getting 10 sacks all together.”
Keep an eye on Knight as he seems a player who could become a focus for Oklahoma football in 2028.
SOUL Mission Connecting with In-State Offer
Unlike some, Colton McComb‘s second trip to Norman didn’t follow a trip from the Michigan weekend. McComb was in Norman for the Illinois State weekend before returning last weekend. And the Edmond (Okla.) Memorial product just continues to seem to enjoy whathe sees in Norman.
And it’s Brent Venables‘s project that seems to catch his eye most frequently.
“It was truly awesome [against Auburn]! Going to a game like that when the stadium is packed is just so real. The fans were loud all game and talking to the coaches before was great,” McComb said.
“I love the SOUL mission, that really speaks to me.”
What is it about the program that the 2027 linebacker offer connects with so completely?
“I love how they give their players an idea to serve and help others. To teach them life lessons and overall develop the man,” he explained.
“And the faith it is based on is very awesome. I am a Christian and it is based on that.”
Auburn Weekend Better than Michigan for OU Offer?
Another player making his second trip of the year was Owasso (Okla.) Rejoice Christian defensive back offer Kamieon Compton-Nero. The No. 84 player in the 2028 class raved about his second trip to Norman this season.
“[This was] even better than Michigan honestly. I felt more comfortable around the coaches and I thought the fans were more into the game,” Compton-Nero said. “The defense was locked in again which was fun to watch.”
He enjoyed the game experience but says it was some time in the locker room that also made it special.

“It was a cool experience in the locker room after the game. Just being part of the celebration and getting to hear from Coach V. I always feel blessed for these opportunities.”
Young Quarterback Getting a Feel for OU
Few players in Norman last weekend could have a better feel for what the Sooners have to offer than Norman North 2028 quarterback Nash Henry.
“It was great. The atmosphere was crazy. The defense played great and the offense did good as well. It was also good to talk to Coach [Brent] Venables and the rest of the staff,” Henry explained.
He’s one to keep an eye on after a stellar performance against Moore last week going 23-30 for 419 yards and four touchdowns.
Who is the Future of Oklahoma Football?
OK, it’s time for Josh’s predictions for the class of 2026. For those unfamiliar every year on the first Friday of each month (or in this case, simply prior to a huge visit weekend), I (Josh) invade Scoop’s personal space to predict what players could fill out the Oklahoma’s ongoing recruiting class.
Right now Oklahoma has 85 players on scholarship. Among those 85, they have 35 juniors and seniors currently on the roster.
As ever there will be be departures either via the NFL draft, transfer, or any of 1,000 other reasons.
With that in mind, along with other bits of information with where the new staff plans to go, Scoop and I have been working under the thought of the Sooners signing somewhere close to 25. However, it feels like that number could be a bit high. The number is always tricky to guess and we’ll keep trying to get more and more of a picture of what the plan could be.
Additionally, a level of confidence will be listed with each of the selections and finally a prediction of who will be the next Sooner pledge. Finally the numbers next to each position are how many I expect OU to sign at each position.

Thoughts on the Offensive Line: I still think there will be moves made here and perhaps an old familiar name pops up. The Sooners need to land more than three offensive lineman and one of these three is a guy they haven’t even offered yet. But Oklahoma football needs more bodies and wants to avoid a situation that occurred last year. That being said, offensive line is different than receiver in that there are just far fewer bodies who can help. We’ll see where this goes but Oklahoma is going to have to make some decisions to pursue a few more prospects – maybe Johnnie Jones?
Defensive Tackle (3)

Linebacker (2-3)
Jacob Curry – Level of Confidence: 50%
Curry was impressed with all he saw in Norman and the Sooners are the probable leaders at the moment. That being said, Ohio State and Florida State could both present unique challenges going forward.
Beau Jandreau – COMMITTED
Jakore Smith – COMMITTED
Cornerback (1-2)
Derrick Johnson – COMMITTED
Safety (2)
Niko Jandreau – COMMITTED
Safety Thoughts: It feels like Oklahoma would like to have another safety in the class but I don’t have the impression that it is a requirement. So I think if the right situation were to come along the Sooners could move quickly.
