It’s informative, it’s insightful, it’s opinionated … it’s the Deep Dive, a look at Purdue’s first spring practice.

• Purdue had a spirited 23-period practice in shorts, jerseys and helmets inside the Mollenkopf Athletic Center on a cold, drizzly Tuesday morning.

• DL TJ Lindsey and OT Joey Tanona were working off to the side. Barry Odom expects Lindsey back in action–at least partly–after spring break. Tanona had offseason surgery and is not cleared for any more than walk-through stuff at the moment. WR Chauncey Magwood and DE Keyshawn Burgos (Virginia Tech) also were limited to light work. WR Jalil Hall was wearing an orange penny. He missed most of last year with a knee injury.

• Yes, WR De’Nylon Morrissette was full-go. Same for TE George Burhenn.

• RB Jerrick Gibson (Texas) looks like he was built in a lab. He has muscles in places other people don’t have places.

• OL Boaz Stanley (South Carolina) was absent–and he had a good reason: His wife just gave birth.

• Yes, if you were wondering Ryan Browne’s mustache is new.

“I did the mustache for spring ball,” said Browne. “Just having fun.”

Browne also has added weight:

“So, I finished the last game at about 205 and right now I’m about 218,” he said. “Being out here today, I feel a lot more confident sitting in the pocket. I feel like I’m getting more zip on the ball. So, that’s been a big thing.”

• Browne confirmed he dislocated his left shoulder at Northwestern last year. He did not have surgery.

• How did Browne’s new deal come about?

“I really tried to have nothing to do with it,” he said. “It was really the front office, (GM) Brandon Lee, talking with my agent. And my agent would fill me in every now and then. And it wasn’t something that happened in one day, but it was something that I tried to kind of stay away from and just let him handle it.”

• Keep in mind it’s early, but here is how the top OL shook out on Day One, left to right: Jude McCoskey, Marques Easley, Ethan Trent, Micah Banuelos (USC), Jatavius Shivers (South Carolina).

• AD Mike Bobinski soaked in the festivities. So did the voice of Purdue football Tim Newton, along with ex-Boiler OL and current sideline reporter Kelly Kitchel.

• There will be no television on BTN for Purdue’s Spring Showcase on April 11.

• Penn portal WR Bisi Owens is not here yet. And neither is JC WR Ricky Sampson. Each is finishing academic work.

Ta’Vari Hampton (JC) and Don Saunders (Utah) made nice INTs during 11-on-11 work.

• Couple QB targets were on hand: 2028 Oscar Sloan and 2027 Ben Musser, an App State commit. 2027 in-state edge Chris Wilson also was here.

• The DJ dropped two AC/DC songs today: “Have a Drink on Me” and “Hells Bells.” That’s football music.
