When looking ahead to South Carolina’s future, there’s plenty of young talent at multiple positions. But one positional group that USC is looking to continue to add depth to is running back. Today, the Gamecocks were able to do just that with the commitment of Matthew Fuller.

At 6-0, 210 pounds, Fuller is a three-star running back for the class of 2024 from Wayne County High School. If that school sounds familiar to Gamecock fans it’s because he’s coached by Jaybo Shaw, the brother of Gamecock great Connor Shaw. Who oh by the way, turned out to be a pretty good three-star from the state of Georgia.

Last season, Fuller rushed for over 1,700 yards and 22 touchdowns, averaging 6.8 yards per carry in the process. He also rushed for over 100 yards in ten different games. A big part of his game is speed. Running a 10.79 in the 100-meter dash this past spring, Fuller came in second at regionals.

In addition to playing running back, he also played linebacker. Last season he racked up 90 tackles including 4.5 sacks.

Fuller’s decision comes just two weeks after completing an official visit in Columbia. He was Shane Beamer’s Welcome Home tweet on Thursday June 22. As of his commitment, On3 has Fuller ranked at the No.48 running back in the class of 2024 and the 78 overall prospect from the state of Georgia. But what should also be mentioned is how Fuller is still fairly new to being on On3’s radar. Just a month ago he wasn’t even ranked yet by On3, meaning there’s still plenty of time to see him get a boost in his rankings.

Fuller chooses USC over schools including Georgia Tech, App State, Iowa State, Minnesota, and UCF. Prior to his commitment, South Carolina ranked No.13 on On3’s 2024 Team Recruiting Industry Rankings. In addition, there’s still one silent commit who Beamer announced on June 12.
