Charles Power talks South Carolina recruiting

Florence (S.C.) South Florence three-star wide receiver Jayden Sellers stands as the lone commitment to the 2025 South Carolina recruiting class at this time and has been a mainstay visitor on campus since committing to the Gamecocks in October.

Sellers, the younger brother of South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers, showed big-play ability as both a wide receiver and “gadget” player in the backfield before his junior season was cut short due to an injury.

On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power joined GC Live as a guest this week and discussed Seller’s game.

“First of all, I think the biggest thing with Jayden Sellers is just going to be seeing more of him getting back onto the field,” Power said. “Missed a good chunk of his junior year. So, really kind of similar to his brother in that regard. I think played about the same number of games or a little more so as a junior. But I think with Jaden, the thing that sticks out to me is just the functional movement skills. Like outstanding change of direction. I think he projects as a high-level route runner. A guy who can get in and out of his breaks. Just really, really strong agility. And plays bigger than his size.”

The 5-foot-11, 170-pounder is primarily a wide receiver but as South Florence replaced the running ability of his older brother at quarterback, it turned to Jayden to create plays in a variety of ways.

“We were kind of seeing early in the season, South Florence was just kind of running like Wildcat, like snapping it to him on direct snaps,” Power said. “And I think he shows the ability to run through arm tackles. And just overall, just kind of technical ability. So, I think he’s got a high skill level.”

Sellers currently holds an 89 rating from both On3 and 247Sports, the highest rating in the three-star category.

On3 has Sellers as the No. 71 wide receiver in the country while 247Sports has him as the No. 38 prospect at his position.

The On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average of the major recruiting rankings, has him as the No. 630 overall prospect and No. 108 wide receiver.

But Power believes there’s a real opportunity for him to move up in the rankings once there is senior film on the Gamecock commitment.

“To me, the biggest thing is just going to be to continue to get bigger, stronger, and us really honestly, just getting more of a sample size on him,” Power said. “From just not seeing quite as much of him as a junior. But dating back to his sophomore year, I thought what he showed was really encouraging. And I think he’s going to be a guy who certainly makes plays at South Carolina and probably projects most ideally as a slot receiver right now. But I’m looking forward to kind of seeing more from him. Because he was a guy that I was pretty excited about just dating back to the past year or so.”
