A busy Texas recruiting Tuesday bleeds into Wednesday

Recruiting is definitely heating up as Texas continues to reshape its big board and jockey for position with key targets while adding new names to the offer list.

Inside Texas readers know this is an extremely competitive instate landscape. One thing that helps Texas is its national offer approach which was on display on Tuesday with three offers extended to defensive linemen. An offer to Richmond’s Chace Sims was a reminder the instate crop of DT’s is strong as well.

New offers

New Texas defensive tackles coach Kenny Baker has been quite busy of late.

DT Chace Sims, Richmond (Texas) Randle
On3 Industry Ranking: 87.22

Texas will get the easy-mover on campus in April to try and make up ground as quickly as possible and earn a June official visit.

DL Derry Norris, Port Orange (Fla.) Spruce Creek
On3 IR: N/A

Despite not having a ranking by the networks his entire June is already booked with official visits. He’s on an offer rampage of late so I’m assuming his schedule will change. Currently he’s set to see Georgia Tech, North Carolina State, Minnesota, and Purdue.

DT Jarquez Carter, Newberry (Fla.)
On3 IR: 88.68

Carter plays with some bounce, meaning, it’s going to be difficult to get him out of the region, much less Florida. Of course, I thought the same about Texas commit Brandon Brown (though that still has a ways to play out)

DT Stephon Shivers, Humboldt (Tenn.)
On3 IR: 85.67

Shivers is huge in the mold of T’Vondre Sweat so Texas has a good pitch as far as development goes. Bo Davis might have left but Torre Becton did not. Texas should roll the tape of Sweat playing with his hair on fire against Rice in heat conditions that had people wondering if the game should be postponed.

New RPM’s

An ‘RPM’ is a prediction made by an On3 recruiting writer for a recruit to land at a certain school. Yesterday, Inside Texas staff members put in three in favor of the Longhorns.

OT Michael Fasusi, Lewisville (Texas)
On3 IR: 96.25 (five-star)

Caution: Texas still has its hands full with OU, A&M, Missouri, and potentially LSU and Oregon. My thinking on putting in a prediction is regional rivals will largely split the very talented in-state group of offensive tackles with Fasusi being the most likely to land at UT.

LB Riley Pettijohn, McKinney (Texas)
On3 IR: 94.16

Said IT’s Justin Wells: “Texas is battling some of the top programs in the country for Pettijohn’s services, including Ohio State and USC. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound four-star will be back in Austin on April 20th for UT’s Orange-White scrimmage.”

LB Elijah “Bo” Barnes, Dallas (Texas) Skyline
On3 IR: 92.55

Wells again: “Texas was early on the four-star Metroplex linebacker and that should pay dividends when Barnes ultimately makes his announcement. Barnes is set to return to Austin on April 6th to watch Spring practice.”

New visitors

QB Troy Huhn, San Marcos (Calif.) Mission Hills – April 6 UOV – 2026
On3 IR: N/A

Huhn will emerge as one of the most highly rated quarterbacks in the class. He’s visiting numerous schools this Spring. Texas is in good position early on. After talking with Huhn on a couple of occasions we could easily see him in Texas’ 2026 class.

WR Kaliq Lockett, Sachse (Texas) – June 21 OV
On3 IR: 95.53 (five-star)

About as good of ball skills as you’ll find at receiver. A&M is an in-state school to watch. Ohio State is also in pursuit. Lockett will visit April 6 before his official visit.

WR Andrew Marsh, Katy (Texas) Jordan – June 14 OV
On3 IR: 93.65

A do-it-all playmaker who can line up at all three receiver positions. Texas is battling regional rivals as well as national teams. Marsh is also visiting for the Spring game.

DT Zion Williams, Lufkin (Texas) – June 21 OV
On3 IR: 89.06

Defensive tackle is the biggest need for Texas in the class and Williams might be the best in the state. Throw his absurdly low ranking out the window. Texas, LSU, and A&M are working overtime.

TE Kiotti Armstrong, Jasper (Texas) – June 21 OV
On3 IR: 92.87

About as naturally talented of a ‘big’ tight prospect as you’ll find. This one screams UT vs A&M, just like his 2024 teammate, linebacker Tyanthony Smith.

CB Cobey Sellers, Pearland (Texas) Shadow Creek – June 14 OV
On3 IR: 91.78

One of the top pure corners in the state, Texas has a huge fight on its hands with OU.

S Jonah Williams, Galveston (Texas) Ball – April 6 UOV
On3 IR: 95.61 (five-star)

Texas football has ground to make up, so too does Texas baseball. Williams is not only an extremely talented football player, the MLB Draft may come calling in addition to college programs.
