Four Longhorns set to take part in the 2024 All-American Bowl
Four 2024 Texas signees are scheduled to participate in the 2024 All-American Bowl in the Alamodome in San Antonio on Saturday. Quarterback Trey Owens wide receiver Ryan Wingo will suit up for the West team, while linebacker Tyanthony Smith and punter Michael Kern will give it their all for the East team.

The game kicks off at noon on NBC and Peacock. Throughout the week, On3 and Inside Texas were in San Antonio to make further evaluations on quarterbacks, receivers, and linebackers alike.
Smith (No. 45) and Kern (No. 9) had quiet weeks working out for East, but Owens and Wingo earned a handful of accolades in the three practices ahead of Saturday’s game.
Trey Owens, West, No. 15
Owens started the week hot while battling in the cold in San Antonio. On3 named him the MVP of day one of West practice.
Team West was the first team to battle the conditions at All-American practice as they started their week in 40°, rainy weather. Obviously, these are not ideal conditions for an offense, but it did not affect Trey Owens. He was sharp from beginning to end. He was able to manipulate the football in the pouring rain and put receivers in the best position to make plays. He was constantly under duress and forced to make plays outside the pocket during team period and was able to move the chains consistently even with a soaking-wet football. He delivered a strike down the middle of the field to NC State signee Terrell Anderson during team period that drew audible “oohs and ahhs” from the sideline and was able to complete more passes than the two other quarterbacks on Team West combined. In a miserable setting, Owens showed up and shined. It was without a doubt the most impressive performance on Team West during the first day of practice. – Cody Bellaire

Owens followed that up with a strong day 2 performance.
At quarterback, Texas signee Trey Owens had the most splash plays through the air that we caught. Owens turned in another good day as a passer, after throwing it well in a downpour on Tuesday. He was not shy in pushing the ball downfield and connected on several deep passes. Owens is certainly a true drop back passer and showed the ability to sit back and go through his progressions when kept clean. The highlight of his joint practice came on a pass to a wide open Nate Frazier down the seam for an easy score.
Owens performed so well during the first two days he was named the top quarterback at the event for how he did in those two practices.
Trey Owens has spun the ball the most consistently out of the quarterbacks through the first two days of practice at the All-American Bowl. On Tuesday’s practice at Trinity University, he battled through cold and rainy conditions, spinning it the best of the three West quarterbacks. Owens moved the chains consistently and delivered the most completions during hard rainfall. Even with a soaking wet ball, he was able to find receivers and push the ball downfield comfortably. He compounded that with a solid performance during Wednesday’s practice. This included several splash plays including a touchdown pass to Georgia signee Nate Frazier down the seam during the team period. Owens was the most aggressive downfield passer of the group during the two-a-day practice on Wednesday. – National Scout Cody Bellaire
He continued his efforts on the third practice day.
Texas signee Trey Owens continued to look like the best passer on the West during Thursday’s practice. Owens was accurate, spun the ball well and made good decisions. Overall, it’s been a clean week for the Houston native.
Ryan Wingo, West, No. 7
The rough weather on the first day limited the effectiveness for Wingo and the rest of the wideouts, but there were still some promising signs.
Courtney Crutchfield, Gatlin Bair, and Ryan Wingo all had their moments during select portions of practice. I expect them to make more plays as the weather clears up during the week.

Wingo also had a few highlights on day 2.
For the West, Missouri signee Courtney Crutchfield and Texas signee Ryan Wingo both had moments in 1-on-1’s. Crutchfield has significant wiggle and found ways to get open. The pass-catching can be inconsistent at times, but he made plays. Wingo flashed his elite speed on a few occasions, getting deep for long gains.

Day 3 saw Wingo step it up albeit it at a more laid back practice.
Ryan Wingo flashed his long speed during the West’s practice. The 6-foot-1.5, 210-pounder can get vertical in a hurry. The highlight of his day came during 1-on-1s with Wingo getting one of the few catches we’ve seen Aaron Flowers surrender all week. Despite solid coverage by Flowers, Wingo was able to track the ball over his shoulder and come down with an impressive contested grab. We later saw the Texas signee show some juice, taking speed sweeps to the edge. He’ll need to continue refining his route-running and overall consistency, but there’s no doubt Wingo can run. – Charles Power
