HALFTIME REPORT: Texas 7, Iowa State 3
It’s been a defensive battle so far between Texas and Iowa State from Jack Trice Stadium in Ames on Saturday night.
Steve Sarkisian inserted Hudson Card into the quarterback spot after Casey Thompson’s lackluster play. It paid dividends as UT gained the lead late in the second for the halftime advantage, 7-3.
After UT’s Bijan Robinson fumbled on the game’s second play, Iowa State recovered the gift at the Texas 39-yard line. After a handful of first down conversions with Breece Hall, Josh Thompson’s pass break-up held the Cyclones to a 24-yard field goal and 3-0 lead, with 12:27 remaining in the opening quarter.
Iowa State would dominate early on, holding the edge in time of possession – ISU 6:19, Texas 1:32 – in the first quarter.

Then Hudson Card entered. After an early three-and-out, Texas went down the field on the legs of Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson. They converted multiple first downs, with Josh Moore adding yards after a catch of his own.
Card then hit Xavier Worthy on the jet sweep and the Horns hits pay-dirt and the scoreboard, taking a 7-3 advantage, after the 14-play, 78-yard drive, with 5:29 remaining in the half.
Kelvontay Dixon added two incredible special teams plays in the first half, including a blocked punt.
