HALFTIME REPORT: West Virginia 21, Texas 10
If Texas wanted to be in Morgantown, you could’ve fooled me.
After losing the total yards battle, 301-136, the Longhorns must rally in the second half to have a chance on Saturday.
West Virginia wasted little time in jumping out in front of the Longhorns. WVU signal-caller Jarret Doege goes 6-of-7 on his opening position, finishing with a 20-yard touchdown to Sam James, and an early 7-0 lead with 11:02 in the first.
After that, both teams looked lackluster at best, trading punts five times. Texas had 11 total yards in the first quarter, while WVU notched 132 yards, with 119 through the air.
As soon as the second quarter started, Doege and the Mountaineers marched down field and scored on Winston Wright’s scoring catch. It gave West Virginia a 14-0 advantage with 13;44 left in the opening stanza. UT’s defense looked hapless and confused, while Leddie Brown began picking up steam.

Texas achieved it’s first 1st down midway in the second on a 6-yard run by Roschon Johnson, then Keilan Robinson found the edge for a 49-yard scoring run. UT was on board down by 7, 14-7, with 8:34 left in the first half.
West Virginia answered methodically with a 12-play, 82-yard drive, culminating in Leddie Brown’s 2-yard touchdown with just under three minutes remaining in the second quarter. It gave WVU the 21-7 lead and all the momentum in Morgantown.
UT’s Cameron Dicker 50-yard field goal right before the half.
