This week, the Inside Texas staff is present in Nashville, Tennessee for the 2024 On3 Elite Series, hosting over 40 of the nation’s blue-chips for this upcoming class. Today, we were able to meet with some of the top Texas targets for the 2025 cycle, including five star Sachse (Texas) receiver Kaliq Lockett.

Lockett has been more under-the-radar for much of his recruiting process. Heading into this season, Lockett was ranked outside the On3 Top 100 and didn’t break 1,000 yards receiving in his freshman and sophomore years but exploded in 2023 for 1,299 yards and 59 receptions, catapulting him to his current ranking as the 12th overall recruit in the 2025 cycle. Lockett says that being underrated was dispiriting, but he’s accustomed to being overlooked throughout his football career. He didn’t let the recruiting services’ rankings affect his work ethic, and ultimately it was this patience that he credits as being the deciding factor of his growth.

Of course, Lockett isn’t the only talented receiver Texas is pursuing in 2025. Dakorien Moore and Jaime Ffrench have also been trending toward Austin as of late. When asked about a potentially crowded receiver room, Lockett says that he isn’t deterred by any competition on campus; he is familiar with Moore and Ffrench from recent visits and says he is excited by the prospect of making a “three-headed monster” between the three. He views the idea of a receiving corps that is talented top-to-bottom as appealing rather than intimidating, and playing alongside other equally determined and capable receivers will only push him to work harder.

Lockett’s June OV’s are currently scheduled to be LSU, Texas A&M, FSU, and Texas in that order. Texas’s main appeal to him is receivers coach Chris Jackson’s recent production of NFL talent, citing Xavier Worthy, AD Mitchell, and Jordan Whittington being drafted in the same year as particularly impressive. Lockett plans on committing sometime in August and is predicted to choose Texas, per the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.
