A couple of Texas Football subplots that bear watching over the next couple of weeks…

1. Do any positional “needs” from the portal become obvious? Will Texas clearly need a big running back, a defensive tackle, another corner? The next month will tell the tale, in my opinion.

Of course, Texas would like an “edge” player to come available but there’s not one right now.

2. How will Sark “define” the offense this spring? Texas used more two tight end sets than many expected in 2022, more than Sark typically does.

But with the departures of Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson, and the running back group no longer being the overall strength of the offense, does Sark revert somewhat to more three and even four receiver sets?

Most expect that to be the case. But just how much? Three wides 80-percent of the time or more like 55-60 percent?

I think we’ll get large clues to that answer during spring.

3. Who is going to be the leader on offense? Is it Quinn Ewers or will it be Kelvin Banks?

Early money is on Ewers but let’s see how he handles that role.

I think defense is pretty well set with Jaylan Ford and Jerrin Thompson returning, along with the addition of Jalen Catalon.

4. I’m also interested to see what we can make of the wide receiver room. There’s a new coach and talented new players. And all of top receivers return, too.

Add Isaiah Neyor to the mix and all of a sudden, the Horns have a room full of high-end players. What are they going to make of all of it?
