The near 6-foot-3, 220-pound EDGE prospect was named the Dallas Morning News Defensive Player of the Week after posting 12 tackles, six tackles for loss, five sacks and an interception return for a touchdown.
Waltonās otherworldly game didnāt come out of nowhere either. He posted 12 tackles and three sacks September 10 in a loss to a very talented DeSoto team. Through six games, Walton has amassed 55 tackles, 19 tackles for loss and nine sacks.
Heās now raced past the expectations those around the South Oak Cliff program had for him.
Walton has become more than an athlete with pads on
The South Oak Cliff coaching staff has seen a very important transformation in Walton with this season being the culmination.
āInitially, I though Billy was a really good athlete,ā Said South Oak Cliff defensive coordinator Kyle Ward on Monday. āBut I didnāt see the physicality needed before last season. He embraces contact now, so itās very, very different.ā

That embracing of contact has taken Waltonās game to a totally different level, and heās proving to be a consistent, productive player.
āHeās playing at a high level now,ā Ward said. āTeams are scheming him up now, but heās playing through contact, so that makes it tough with his athleticism. He had three sacks against DeSoto, so this isnāt a one game thing. Heās shocked me, Iām not going to lie to you.āĀ
Walton is currently a three-star in the On3 Consensus ranking. Heās one of 21 commitments in the Texas Longhorns No. 5 ranked recruiting class, which includes nine commitment from the DFW Metroplex.
