Texas Recruiting Round-up: Coaches on the road, new offers issued

The Texas Longhorns coaching staff has racked up the miles of late during the current contact period, which allows for coaches to make in-person, off-campus recruiting contacts and evaluations. On Thursday, Steve Sarkisian and others were at high schools around the state and issuing offers around the country.

Early this morning, Texas and defensive line coach Bo Davis issued an offer to 2024 Hattiesburg (Miss.) Oak Grove EDGE Caleb Moore. The Longhorns joined Mississippi State and UNLV as offers on the table for the unranked prospect listed at 6-foot-3, 250 pounds.

Sarkisian then made a handful of stops around East Texas. He and Longhorn safeties coach Blake Gideon traveled by helicopter to Brownsboro to see 2024 wide receiver and Texas offer Gekyle Baker. Brownsboro is also home to 2024 TE Beau Hardin and 2025 ATH Micah Strickland.

The next stop was Tyler to see Tyler High and new Lions head coach Rashaun Woods. The alma mater of Earl Campbell and several other Longhorn greats is currently home to On3 Consensus four-star athlete and Texas offer Derrick McFall, plus Zachaun Williams.

McFall had 445 passing yards, 218 rushing yards, and 226 receiving yards for the Lions this past season.

After Tyler High, Sarkisian ventured to Longview, home of four-star running back Taylor Tatum and four-star defensive back Willie Nelson.

Tatum had 206 carries for 1840 yards and 33 touchdowns for the Lobos, while Nelson was a key part of the Lobo defense and was the main punt returner.

Following the trip to Tyler and Longview, Sarkisian issued the second offer of the day on a visit to Timpson. Sarkisian and Gideon issued an offer to 2024 athlete Terry Bussey The 5-foot-10.5, 180-pounder is ranked as the No. 81 player in the nation according to the On3 Consensus and the No. 23 prospect in his class according to On3.

Bussey ran a personal record but not wind-legal 10.66 in the 100m in the 2022 UIL 2A state finals. At the same event, he recorded a non wind-legal personal record triple jump of 45-10.75 to finish second.
