Behind the legs of Cedric Baxter and the defensive line’s domination, the No. 7 Horns toppled Iowa State, 26-16, to remain in first place in the Big 12 Conference heading into the final week at Jack Trice Stadium on Saturday night.

Here’s what the Texas players had to say after the win in Ames.

Quinn Ewers, QB

ON HOW MUCH THIS PROGRAM HAS TURNED AROUND SINCE THE LAST VISIT TO AMES:

“100%, I think the way that we have turned this culture around, in this program around football, it’s pretty cool to see just the way all of us have really bought into what our coaches are saying. Knowing how to win games and just doing everything that they tell us to do, and it ends up working so that just ends up helping us to be able to trust our coaches even more which is which is really neat.”

Cedric Baxter, RB

ON TONIGHT’S PERFORMANCE, PREPARATION:

“It felt real good. I feel like coach (Tashard) Choice, coach Sark, coach (Kyle) Flood, and the coaches, they prepared me for it.

ON RETURNING TO STARTING ROLE:

“I think (previously starting) helped me a lot. Just everything I’ve been through since I’ve been going through the injury. JB (Jonathon Brooks) took over the number one spot and just learning from him every day, he preaches new things. I mean, just learning from him. With everything, he’s helped me build up to this point tonight.”

Jordan Whittington, WR

ON SECURING TEN WINS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN REGULAR SEASON SINCE 2009:

“We’re 10-1. I haven’t been 10-1 since high school and that was decades ago. I think we’ve got a six-star culture right now.”

ON SCORING HIS FIRST TOUCHDOWN IN 2023:

“It feels amazing, you know, it was a long time coming, but it definitely felt great, just crossing that line. And my whole team literally ran to the sideline and celebrated with me. So it’s just moments like that when you know I play for the game. It was great.”

T’Vondre Sweat, DL

ON MINDSET GOING INTO THIS GAME AFTER ISU’S GAME WEEK WORDS:

“I told them ‘Just see what happens at 7pm.'”

ON BLOCKING THE SECOND HALF EXTRA POINT:

“I mean, I just did what I was supposed to do. I just hit the gap, got low, put my hands up and blocked it. And we scoop-and-scored.”
