Trojans land former Ohio State starting safety Bryson Shaw

The USC Trojans picked up their 14th portal transfer on Sunday with the announcement that former Ohio State starting safety Bryson Shaw is making the move from Columbus to Los Angeles, according to Shaw’s father, Bryn, who sent out a social media tweet announcing the change of universities.

The 6-foot, 195-pound Shaw started 12 games for the Buckeyes in 2021 at free safety, recording 59 total tackles. Upon his Buckeyes departure, Shaw was listed in spring as a starting Ohio State safety. He has a reported two seasons of eligibility remaining.

In 2021, Shaw started 12 times for the Buckeyes and 21 games for his Ohio State career. Last season, he ranked third on the Buckeyes team in tackles with 59 that also included 30 solo stops. He also had an interception last season against Michigan.

Coming out of Eldersburg, Maryland and The Bullis School in Potomac, Maryland for the class of 2019, Shaw was considered a 3-star recruit. At one point in his athlete career, Shaw was a Maryland lacrosse commit.

Shaw becomes part of a USC secondary that includes other current corner transfers in Makhi Blackmon (Colorado) and Latrell McCutchin (Oklahoma). In addition, USC signed blue-chip safety Zion Branch from Las Vegas for the class of 2022. The Trojans also currently have on hand freshman All-America safety Calen Bullock, and former Texas transfer Xavion Alford.
