Inside the Trojans' Huddle: WeAreSC on USC DC D'Anton Lynn

Pregame

In Tuesday’s edition of Inside the Trojans Huddle, panelists Marc Kulkin, Erik McKinney, Chris Arledge, and Greg Katz analyze USC’s hiring of new DC D’Anton Lynn. the Holiday Bowl and Louisville, Caleb Williams bows out and his legacy, a new Big Ten Lightning Round, viewers’ questions, and predictions analysis of Pac-12 bowl game opening point spreads.

First Quarter

In the first quarter of the Huddle, the panel analyzes the hiring of D’Anton Lynn, former DC of UCLA, as the USC’ new defensive coordinator. Each panelist gives the pros and cons of the hire and comments on Lincoln Riley’s new perspective on the type of defense he wants to see in the future under Lynn. The panel discusses how Riley’s new concepts seem at odds with the defense under former DC Alex Grinch. Is this change of defensive philosophy going to be a benefit or an exploding cigar for Riley?

Second Quarter

In the second quarter of the Huddle, the panel takes an in-depth look at the Trojans playing in the Holiday Bowl and the ramifications of playing the CFP No. 15 Louisville Cardinals, who are making their first visit to the Direct TV Holiday Bowl. With the announcement that Caleb Williams won’t be playing in the Holiday Bowl, how does that affect the Trojans, how does it affect Louisville, and how will this Monday announcement affect Holiday Bowl attendance?

An added caveat: Will USC fans support a game between the Trojans and Louisville like they would have if the Trojans were playing Clemson? The panel explores all angles of the game and its effect on backup SC quarterbacks Miller Moss and Malachi Nelson?

Halftime

The panel gives their thoughts and assessment of Monday’s announcement by head coach Lincoln Riley that quarterback Caleb Williams would not be playing in the Holiday Bowl. It is agreed that CW has played his last game as a Trojan. That all being said, the panel goes at length regarding the legacy left by Caleb Williams and where should the superstar quarterback be placed in the pantheon of great Trojans’ football players? How will he be remembered? How will he be celebrated in the years to come?

Third Quarter

In the third quarter, the panel gave their rapid responses to the Big Ten Lightning Round of questions. Most of the questions are “yes or no” and include does Lincoln Riley bear any responsibility for not surrounding Caleb Williams with better talent around him, Holiday Bowl attendance, Raleek Brown transfer destination, retaining Chip Kelly, a new USC quarterback, Marshawn Lloyd and the Holiday Bowl, personal fan violence, and early game exits.

The Big Ten bonus question: “Did you go to your high school prom? Why or why not?

Fourth Quarter

Following the lighting of the WeAreSC symbolic Coliseum torch between the third and fourth quarters of the Huddle, the panel leads off the fourth quarter by answering viewers’ questions.

Viewers’ questions addressed defensive intensity, Ken Norton Jr., Holiday Bowl point spread, transfer portal QB transfer, Lynn and Holiday Bowl coaching, coaching longevity, USC coaching turnover, tight ends usage, USC viewpoints, stealing UCLA DC or Oregon losing in the Pac-12 title game, and more.

Overtime

In the Overtime period, the panel assesses the point spread for all Pac-12 teams involved in bowl games.
