Andy Staples Week 7 Resume Rankings | 10.08.23

The latest 2023 College Football Playoff national championship odds were updated ahead of Week 7 of the regular season.

Your standard contenders remained at the top, but some new ones made their way to the top tier. Thank you Red River Rivalry game.

Let’s dive into the latest national championship odds, courtesy of FanDuel, ahead of Week 7.

Georgia (+250)

(Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports)

Georgia looked like the two-time national champions when the Bulldogs dominated Kentucky. The 51-13 win proved this team is “back,” so to speak.

Not that they really went anywhere, but Georgia is rolling now and that three-peat looks a little more likely. Vegas thinks so, as UGA still has the shortest odds.

Michigan (+350)

(Matt Krohn-USA TODAY Sports)

The Wolverines beat down Minnesota 52-10 on the road and kept the undefeated season going. It doesn’t seem like this team has been challenged quite yet.

How will that hold up against the likes of Penn State or Ohio State? It remains to be seen, but if history is any indication, this team is at least as good if not better than the last two years.

Florida State (+900)

(Melina Myers-USA TODAY Sports)

After a bye week, the Seminoles returned to action and dominated Virginia Tech 39-17. Jordan Travis tossed two touchdowns but it was the Trey Benson show.

Benson ran 11 times for 200 yards and two touchdowns, dominating the Hokies. This is clearly the best team in the ACC, but North Carolina wants to get in on the party.

Ohio State (+900)

(Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports)

The Buckeyes started out slow coming off the bye week versus Maryland. However, they stepped it up in the second half.

Kyle McCord ended up with 320 yards and two touchdowns. The run game is still a work in progress, it seems, but DeaMonte Trayanum found the end zone and the defense limited Taulia Tagovailoa.

Penn State (+1,200)

(David Banks-USA TODAY Sports)

The Nittany Lions had the week off, but they still have good odds to win it all this season. But it all comes down to how they do against Michigan and Ohio State this season.

You can’t rule out a one-loss Penn State team to the CFP, even if PSU doesn’t make the Big Ten title game. We’ve seen it before in this conference and James Franklin’s crew has a great shot.

Washington (+1,300)

(Zachary BonDurant-USA TODAY Sports)

Washington, like Penn State (and frankly the next team on this list) had an off week but have a huge matchup this coming weekend. The Huskies host Oregon in what could be, emphasis on could, a Pac-12 and CFP eliminator game.

Boy, the stakes are high for this one. Is this the Michael Penix Jr. Heisman game coming? Or will it favor the Ducks?

Oregon (+1,400)

(Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports)

Speaking of the Ducks, Bo Nix and company are rolling. The week off gave them an extra week to prepare for Washington and vice versa.

As mentioned above, the odds will vastly shift for these teams depending upon the outcome of the game. Could this be one of the wins of the year if Oregon pulls it off on the road?

Oklahoma (+1,500)

(BRYAN TERRY/THE OKLAHOMAN / USA TODAY NETWORK)

How about those odds for Oklahoma? The Sooners soared in the top contenders tier this week after knocking off rival Texas. The 34-30 win wasn’t anything Texas necessarily did wrong, although you could nitpick all over the place.

Oklahoma was just better, plain and simple. The defense stood out in spots and Dillon Gabriel was a monster. Here comes Brent Venables and crew.

Alabama (+2,000)

(Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports)

Alabama is still hanging around here, so don’t forget about the Crimson Tide. The close win over Texas A&M on the road could’ve been better, but a win is a win.

Nick Saban and Alabama seemed to have mostly figured it out with this year’s squad following that loss to Texas at home. They’re clearly the top team in the SEC West at this point and have a path right back to the CFP.

Next set of contenders

Texas (+2,000)
USC (+2,400)
North Carolina (+10,000)
Louisville (+15,000)
LSU (+15,000)
Miami (+20,000)
Tennessee (+20,000)
Utah (+20,000)

Out of this next group, Texas and USC had the best chance to win it all due to the conference situations. Basically, win the conference title with one loss or less and you could be right back in the CFP.

The rest are more long shots, but ones that have yet to be officially eliminated. What will Week 7 have in store?
