I missed basically the entire match watching Kasak. It's 16-2, Haines, in the 3rd period. With 4:04 in RT, it's a 17-2 TF @ 7:00

First period
Haines drills a double leg 10 seconds in and finishes it for a 3-0 lead. Wilcox escapes to 3-1. Haines shoots again on a single and scores again for a 6-1 lead at the minute mark of the first. That's it for the first.
Second period
Haines is riding to start the second. He rides for about a minute before Haines cuts to 6-2. He is right back in for a takedown and 9-2 lead, three near falls make it 12-2.
Third period
Haines escapes to 13-2. He shoots again and converts again to a 16-2 advantage. He rides it out and wins 17-2, a technical fall, with 4:04 in riding time.
Haines tf. Wilcox, 7-2 (7:00).

They are into 165 in assignments, but Mesenbrink as the 2 seed is at the bottom of the bracket, so no assignment yet for him
The Nagao and Kasak matches were the toughest in the first round.
I haven't seen a PSU guy with such little awareness in the match in years that Kasak showed there.
@GregPickel -- thanks for covering the Haines match. We might run into a problem with Mesenbrink and Starocci -- I'll post about it if it looks like that is going to happen
Frankly, Nagao result did not surprise me. Kasak on the other hand, really surprising.

Nagao and Kasak better find some aggressiveness in wrestle backs. I’m not sure what’s up with Tyler. I kind of expected Nagao’s performance, although not this early.
Let's not get hung up setting a scoring record-just win the championship. The Nagao and Kasak matches were the ones I thought we may not win.
The scoring record was really the only thing for them to chase outside of individual titles.

Early. We know Penn State's strength is in the heavier weights.
I know. By Tyler is a true freshmen and thought he may have some opening round jitters.
Aaron in my view never fully recovered from his illness and hurt his overall conditioning.
Well, there is the matter of winning the natty itself - scoring record would've been the cherry on top of the ice cream.
We're fine as a team. There have been years we started with no representative at 125. Those guys just need to go to work on the backside to best represent themselves and help the team.
Was able to get the backyard (1/4 acre) mowed. Sis in PA told me yesterday they were having snow with cold rain coming afterwards. I'm not ready for mowing season to be here . . .

Yes. His right knee is still a bit tender. Having been through a lot of knee surgeries and an eventual replacement, a twist on the knee with a brace can be painful,
Does Carter choosing neutral show he'd prefer not to be rolling on bottom?
This may be the opening match he needs to test everything and get his feel back.

Yes. I have met Carter several times and gotten to know him. This is strategy going forward.
