He has been there since the 2016 season and has had a few opportunities to leave. I am not sure how good those opportunities have been in terms of a top ten job like ours. I am encouraged that he is from Ohio and he seems to bring an element of toughness and grit that I think we have lacked under Franklin.

It could take a lot to pry him out of Ames. He and his family are settled there and the school likes him as evidenced by the recent contract extension. He has security in Ames.

I agree that he would be a good hire. My concern and admittedly I have not researched this aspect but how successful has he been developing QBs and a good or innovative offense? That is a kind of difficult to assess because he has lacked the talent that we have had. Also wondering how strong of a recruiter he is although that facet has changed with the NIL era. However, as a new coach in a new area of the country you will need to sell yourself, your vision, the university, the program, etc.
I feel like Cambell is basically James Franklin

I would love this from Kraft’s next PRESSER. o_O :

”I know that many of you anticipated that I would announce Penn State’s next head football coach today, but I have a different announcement. After much consideration, Penn State’s administration and I have decided that the college football landscape no longer matches Penn State’s values. As a result, Penn State will cease all football operations immediately. I would like to thank all of you and all Penn Staters for their support of Penn State Football over the years and trust that you all will support this difficult decision. Now I will open it up to questions.”
Sure. And in doing so you collapse the Centre County economy. This program has far more significance in the local area than many other top programs except maybe Alabama. Not that easy. Perhaps we back off defining success as national championships or bust. Other the record against top five we had what many other schools want and we now let it slip through our hands.

As a pure football coach, I think he is an excellent choice. I do also have concerns about recruiting with him though. Perhaps he still has Ohio connections.

I agree; he strikes me as a real football coach rather than a CEO masquerading as a head coach. PSU might have similar records under him as it did under Franklin, but I bet that the football played would be much tougher.

McSorley started some games for Arizona a few years ago. McGloin got starts.

Fields has started for absolutely god awful teams (I live in Chicago) and is about to get benched by the terrible Jets. Starting just seems like a low bar for meaningful. I get that starting is hard. So is getting drafted.

With that in mind. Kerry Collins has more starts/yards/completions/touchdowns than every Ohio State QB that's ever been drafted, combined.

Since the 2005 season Collins has better stats than Fields.

Both have 50 starts
Collins has 1 playoff start. Fields none.
Collins has 963 completions. Fields 770
Collins 55 TDs. Fields 49.
I was originally talking about after Collins but OK, move those goalposts to include the single greatest PSU QB in the NFL ever, who hasn't played a snap in 15 years. If you think McSorley and McGloin did more than Fields in the NFL you're off your rocker, and that's just one example from one program that consistently shows they can develop QBs better than PSU. Recent PSU QBs are a huge nothingburger in the NFL aside from Collins and MRob, who didn't even play QB in the league. If you want to weight a couple of pedestrian starts over a guy that has started the majority of the games over a 3-4 year period then I don't know what to tell you. Fields has had 100x the impact in the NFL than the cumulative impact of every single PSU QB since Kerry Collins. He might not be a very good NFL QB, but he's still done 100x more than anyone from PSU which should tell you something. Instead of arguing about how these QBs from other schools aren't very good in the league you should be arguing that even bad QBs from other programs dwarf PSU's QB production, which is a huge indication that PSU absolutely sucks at QB development in terms of getting ready for the NFL.

NFL success isn't the defining stat anyway, it's just one example. Look at OSU and Oregon this year... it was PSU's year because they were both breaking in new starting QBs. Surprise surprise, their brand new starters are significantly better and doing more for their teams that Allar as a senior in his 3rd season as a starter.

If Kraft is actually after Ruhle (and I suspect he is) he should be fired yesterday.
The BOT will never settle for Rhule with the kind of money they authorized. But then again, they were the ones that gave Franklin that enormous raise when Franklin went over Sandy's head to get it.

if someone like Urban or anyone that is available now such as him wouldn't they announce it so they can start recruiting?
Good point - however, it probably takes a while to iron out negotiations and finalize a contract. It's only been a couple weeks. Plus, I think they want to give Terry Smith something of a chance.

Do you have any updates ?
Everything seems to have gone quiet.

Everything I've been hearing fans talk about is regurgitation of old lists with someone new added from way out of Left Field. Throw out the outlandish suggestions and the bottom feeders and we'll find it to be someone in the middle. I just don't see them taking a big chance on someone unless things aren't going well. A pick from the most promising winners all seems to be married to their alma maters.

As it was told to me PS has big money to throw at the right guy, I ask who would be that right guy that isn't Saban or Meyer and it won't be either of them, imo.

Our best chance for a HR hire is Kiffin just tiring of the SEC (which I doubt).

Even if remotely true some big numbers for Kiffin if he goes to Florida...

Florida’s job offer to Lane Kiffin is reportedly worth $81 million over six years, per @gatorbaitmedia
👀

At a whopping $13.5 million per year, Kiffin would become the highest-paid coach in CFB

Wow, and to think that FLA failed to have a mitigation clause in Napier's contract. That is some big coin being paid out.

kiffin is a scumbag, so I wouldn’t want him at PSU, but he‘s a better fit in the south regardless. His idiot visor wouldn’t work in Happy Valley.
