Yes we were.
Explain the doubled Zone time and going 18 minutes with 2 shots.
The last ten minutes of first period and first 8 of the second we had 2 shots on goal.
You call that total dominance

Sports talk and perceptions, all fun nd good Kyk
The rangers neutral zone pressure was fantastic. They won the battle between the blue lines.
Did the devils get the puck into the rangers zone? Yes, they did. But they also gave it up alot between the blue lines which led to that counter attack.
How can you be so pessimistic following that game last night?! The Devils fans at the PRU were like the walking dead by the end of the game

It am now convinced that Gerard Gallant watches a completely different game then the rest of us.

He said after the game “the good thing is that we kept the puck in their end, and kept it out of our end”.

How could he possibly have that takeaway from last night’s game???
I've stopped listening to his post-games because they're too frustrating. In his defense, the averaged something like 35 or 36 SOG against during the Devils regular season games and were better than that last night.

Two other points... (1) Kane reached a new level in terms of terribleness last night. He genuinely looked like he didn't care or wasn't trying. There's not a lot of options but I wouldn't even dress him on Thursday. It was that bad.

(2) The Hughes PS goal at the end worries me. I thought he played a pretty terrible game where his 2 great rushes / scoring chances overshadowed a myriad of bad puck decisions / turnovers. I could see that meaningless goal changing his outlook on things and see him dominating in Game 2.

On a different note, for whatever reason I love watching Toronto disappoint in the playoffs. I have nothing against the team or the players, but I just enjoy the colossal expectations the city always has come crumbling down.

Yup
You saw a different game than I did.
I saw 50 clean zone entries to 20 in favor of the Devils with very little neutral zone pressure.
Blocked shots and missing the net is definitely frustrating for fans.

Fun fact
Devils doubled Rangers in zone time.
Rangers blocked ridiculous amount of shots and Devils missed the net numerous times.
Echoing Cheese on Kane’s value in top 6 roll 5 on 5….Brodzicki would have more of an impact

You weren't sitting in section 22 last night, were you? There was a guy behind me doing color commentary on Patty Kane on the powerplay and it was very funny.

"Oh yeah, you look ready"
"Don't pass it to 88"
"Go back to Chicago"

Kane does look tired, no doubt. But hopefully he's still got enough gas in the tank to do something magical.

Because after dominating the first 10 minutes and taking a 2-0 lead we effectively played a trap in the neutral zone and just kept everything to the outside in our end.

It was a total domination start to finish. At no time were the rangers on their heels

The devils didnt have a shot on goal for 8 minutes of PP lol. Domination

Hughes gets knocked off the puck so easily when contact is made. The tough part sometimes is making contact.

Hes a little bit of a headcase tho, both on and off the ice. He also had a bunch if turnovers last night. There was one rush where trouba was clearly lining him up and jack saw it and just turned it right over. Troubas waiting to lay one

What a difference between the Rangers’ two deadline trades.

It is an understatement to say Kane looks like a shell of what he was in Chicago.

Tarasenko just gets more impressive with his overall game, and while he had trouble keeping up with the Devils’ speed at times, I love Mikkola’s positioning and decision making. If Miller had Mikkola’s hockey sense he would win a few Norris trophies.

I saw a bunch of young Devils not ready for playoff hockey last night. Deer in the headlights a little bit.
That'll wear off and they will play much better.
Rangers got some good bounces at times, but they were the better team and aggressive all game. Make your own luck.
I give the kids a Mulligin and look forward to better play.

Home teams outscored 20-6 too. They just didn't get beat, they got whooped.
Considering jack is AWFUL on faceoffs, game 2 is the series for the devs. Got to the garden and turk can pair mika/trocheck vs hughes on draws? Not good for devs

Gallant is on record that he doesn’t pay attention to home ice line matchups that much.

there would have been numerous fights on the ice last night if the refs let it happen.

Severson has glue in his gloves apparently. He wanted nooooo smoke
We almost had timo vs trochek, and Wood vs motte, but both times the refs broke it up.

Speaking of shitting their pants….John Marino on the devs looked downright scared out there

Motte wouldnt go. Not that type of guy. Trocheck wouldve went with meier though, just not at that time in the game. Trocheck isnt dumb to try to give devs any spark. Meier is overrated overall

Matt Martin should be suspended for as long as the Islanders remain alive in the playoff.

What a d’bag. Cheap shots Staal from behind so that his head bounces off the ice, then follows that up by putting all of his body weight on Staal’s upper body.

Yup super dirty play. And only a 2 minute penalty for “interference.”

He won’t even get suspended because the initial hit wasn’t contact with the head. The whole episode was just a d**k move from him, though.

If the league actually cared about head injuries they would view the thing in totality.

It is just the latest example of NHL no justice. Should have been a major, even though Martin doesn't have a bad history.

I hope Staal is alright. If Marchand can get away with his latest hit to the head, nothing will happen to Martin.

When they are this inconsistent, they invite questions.

Having a guy who was a goon as a player as head of Player Safety tells you all you need to know about the NHL.

LMAO, with an own goal like that the Islanders should be wearing the '90's fish sticks uniform, Stan Fischler posed for. 😆

That was a nothingburger and certainly not even near suspension worthy.

He put his body on him because there were 5 seconds left and it was his form of defense. U dont have to agree with it but that was the intent

In no way shape or form was that a major. Interference/can even make a case for holding, sure.

The more violent the nhl is the better it is. Its far more entertaining to see chippy play than figure skaters

Give me 80's Oilers hockey over 70's Flyers hockey anytime.
Give me 70’s flyers all day. Heck even 2012 nhl was tremendous too. Still a good league but it used to be better when it was more violent

Espn’s hockey coverage is so fvcking bad. Theyll show 100 replays of an irrelevant goal that makes it 6-3 but no replay of what lead to that scrum
