True. But we gotta appreciate the 70s flyers for kicking the USSR teams ***.But not a locker room full of them
I'm more annoyed about the player indicator that keeps popping up and getting in the way during powerplays. We don't need that when the play by play guy tells you who it is anyway.Espn’s hockey coverage is so fvcking bad. Theyll show 100 replays of an irrelevant goal that makes it 6-3 but no replay of what lead to that scrum
I love this kid lomberg. Tough little sob
I don’t mind fighting, I don’t mind big hits, but if the league is going to protect guys against CTE, they need to think differently. The more violent the nhl is the better it is. Its far more entertaining to see chippy play than figure skaters
We disagree. Martin freight trained him from behind, going a distance, with a purpose. In no way shape or form was that a major. Interference/can even make a case for holding, sure.
Thats not even an illegal check. It is interference/holding for holding him down thoughWe disagree. Martin freight trained him from behind, going a distance, with a purpose.
I like the physicality. That said, bring back the fights and hard hits face to face. I like Martin, who is not a "dirty" player usually, but his blindside hit illustrates how players are not watching out for one another.
Thankfully checks are up. However a complete blindside hit, could cause another crackdown. They have taken out, catching a guy with his head down. That is far safer than hits from behind, or late hits, like Matt Dumba's. The NHL has to be better at setting a standard, because it is Hockey fan's that are sounding the alarm.

As a Devils fan, I 100% agree, can't take anything from the underlying stats in a 5-1 game that the Rag's led from early on.Because after dominating the first 10 minutes and taking a 2-0 lead we effectively played a trap in the neutral zone and just kept everything to the outside in our end.
It was a total domination start to finish. At no time were the rangers on their heels
The devils didnt have a shot on goal for 8 minutes of PP lol. Domination
Nah. False narrative here.
Hes a little bit of a headcase tho, both on and off the ice. He also had a bunch if turnovers last night. There was one rush where trouba was clearly lining him up and jack saw it and just turned it right over. Troubas waiting to lay one
Ruff won't send Hughes out for many D-zone faceoffs. And no matter who he is up against, Rag's are likely to win it anyways. It legit won't be much of an issue.Considering jack is AWFUL on faceoffs, game 2 is the series for the devs. Got to the garden and turk can pair mika/trocheck vs hughes on draws? Not good for devs
They didn't take fighting away. And I'm doubting blindside/late hits or even stick fouls are up.Until the NHL does a better job at being consistent, we will run into these problems. Since they took fighting away, for the most part, stick fouls and blindside or late hits are up. Players are not looking out for one another. Heaven forbid, but I don't want to see what the NHL would do, following a death because a head hit the ice.
They didn't take fighting away. And I'm doubting blindside/late hits or even stick fouls are up.
Scott Stevens ruined multiple guys careers, leaving guys KO'd on the ice. We don't see that sort of stuff much anymore.
I strongly agree with you here. I'm not a fan of their TV and color guys, but in their defense, I strongly disliked the NBC teams from prior years. (I feel like there's a shortage of broadcast talent right now - there isn't a Davidson / Emrick or anytihng like that).Espn’s hockey coverage is so fvcking bad. Theyll show 100 replays of an irrelevant goal that makes it 6-3 but no replay of what lead to that scrum
NBC stupidly didn’t follow their formula for their Premier League coverage with hockey, and TNT/ESPN were too dumb to see that mistake and take advantage.I strongly agree with you here. But the their production quality is clearly lacking experience. They often miss key replays or things behind the play that make for good coverage.
That is why Buchnevich will always be one of my favorite Rangers.Today's players, exhibit A Brad Marchand, have no fear of having to answer for what they have done or do.
But again fighting has not been taken away. And clean or not (and they were under the rules at the time) anyone could have responded to Stevens ko’ing the opposing star player.Again Stevens played linebacker in American football in Kitchener Ontario. He learned how to hit, had good timing, and was very strong.
In his whole career, he was never penalized for elbowing.
Contrast that to today. I have heard multiple former players saying stick fouls are up. As is dangerous hits along the boards. Why? It is simple, no fear. Back when fighting was much more prevalent, guys had to throw down when/if they crossed a line
Keith Jones has told a funny story a time or 2. Paraphrasing, when Jones was on the Flyers, he angered the tough guy on the other team. He called to Berube, Chief, the Flyers tough guy for help, Berube told him, your *** cashed this check, it is not my fight. Keith Jones held on for dear life until the linesman broke up the dance.
Today's players, exhibit A Brad Marchand, have no fear of having to answer for what they have done or do.
Come on man lol. Thats not a cross check. Charging? Come on. Haha do you follow hockey?Looked like a clear cross check to the back, (left his feet to boot, so maybe charging as well?) in addition to the interference after ward.
I hope a penalty of some sort was called.
Not a false narrative lol. Im not gonna get into it publicly thoAs a Devils fan, I 100% agree, can't take anything from the underlying stats in a 5-1 game that the Rag's led from early on.

That said, tonight is obviously a very important game for the Devils.

Fair, however fighting is way down, especially in the regular season. I would like to see it go back to late 90's levels, it is a better game that way.But again fighting has not been taken away. And clean or not (and they were under the rules at the time) anyone could have responded to Stevens ko’ing the opposing star player.
And i need to see actual stats on stick fouls.
We can take this up later.Fair, however fighting is way down, especially in the regular season. I would like to see it go back to late 90's levels, it is a better game that way.
I haven't seen the stats, just heard from several players, it was up. They likened it to NCAA Hockey. With no fighting, the cheap stick stuff behind the ref, goes on more.
Marty Mcsorely's baseball swing to the head not withstanding, back then there was less cheap stuff, and more excitement IMO.
Case in point, Matt Dumba. I don't think he does half his late hits, or other cheap stuff, if players like Stu Grimson were still active. There already have been some close calls of players hitting the ice head first. It concerns me, God forbid somebody dies or is a vegetable.
Oh cmon get into it!Not a false narrative lol. Im not gonna get into it publicly tho
Well you did say “on the ice” as well which is silly. Not a false narrative lol. Im not gonna get into it publicly tho
I liked that the player who shoved him down and inadvertently into Fleury's skate seemed immediately concerned after seeing what happened. I love the competitiveness, physicality, hitting, and everything that makes playoff hockey so tough, but it's nice to see respect between the guys who are engaged in such a rough battle out there, just like the sincere handshakes at the end of a series.Morgan Barron (Winnipeg) gets 75 stitches after a goalmouth scramble. Goalies skate caught in his visor, complete accident, but crazy incident.
Returned to finish the game. I love hockey players. LOL
At least it's not nearly as bad as when the NHL moved to OLN (later being renamed Versus and then NBC Sports). Felt like I was watching a broadcast directed towards kids who were just learning about hockey.NBC stupidly didn’t follow their formula for their Premier League coverage with hockey, and TNT/ESPN were too dumb to see that mistake and take advantage.
Just like Premier League soccer, hockey has a niche of fans who are very into the sport, and they don’t want to see these feeble attempts to mainstream their coverage.
They should have went after talented Canadian hockey studio hosts and announcers, had their coverage be intelligent and “eclectic” like the EPL is on NBC, and the already fans would be happy while the fan base grew over time as new people were drawn to it as an alternative to the inanity of other sports and their coverage.
The EPL on NBC has been a huge hit treating its fans like adults, and for some reason no one wants to try it for other sports.
Trochek’s lack of top end skills is evident
Worst roughing call on Fox ever
Right now I'd take that, rather see us get swept at MSG then see the Rangers win the series at the Rock in 5.I was way off.
Rangers will sweep this weak Devils team.
I am Sorry, but you were right. Hope springs eternal, until it doesn't. You should always go with your first instinct, and mine was, I didn't want the NYR in round one. The Rangers are too experienced and big.LOLz Devils. Looks like last years team. Pathetic
But I called this months ago.
It’s not a team built for the playoffs

If Bratt doesn't want to resign, trade him for someone built for playoff hockey. This NJD team is what I derisively called them 4 months ago, a nice regular season team only.
The Devils need a playoff winning caliber goalie, more grit, and player's with better hockey sense. Bad penalties lead to goals.
The only silver lining to me is, this is year one of our legit Stanley Cup dream. Step one, don't resign DUMBASSES like Wood and Severson.
I would resign Meier. I trade Bratt's rights. Inexcusable! No reason to re-sign bratt or Meier..both have been absolutely invisible the first 5 periods of the playoffs
Bratt needs to come back to earth if he thinks he's a $8M+ player.I would resign Meier. I trade Bratt's rights. Inexcusable!
