The Islanders' whole season is wrapped up in the next 3 games, but only one is a divisional game, where they've played great all season. They did a Don Mc Lean in Jan.,shivering through an 11 game losing streak.

Avs had the offsides call go their way
As well as the stick to Marino's face on the same play. Or the fact V.V. had and off night. Not to mention, they trade for Lars Eller way after we trade for Timo, and he gets to Denver and plays.

This is why I said "character" win. To maximize this season, the Devils must have the ability to win games like this, where we don't get the calls we would like.

Starting to look like the long expected Devils-Rangers first round series might not happen (I think the Devils can catch CAR).

If so, they probably wouldn’t meet unless they both made it to the conference final.
The only way they could meet in the conference final is if one of them completely collapses and falls down to a wild card spot. If the Devils catch Carolina and win the first round, they'll play the winner of the Carolina and Rangers series in the second round.

Was thinking this too. That being said, you much rather face Pittsburgh/NYI/etc then NYR/CAR then potentially having to go through both NYR/CAR

For some reason I thought it went by points for the second round, not the division winner automatically playing the 2-3 winner from their own division.

Now I hate the NHL playoff setup even more.

Bill Guerin says he plans to push for the old 1-8 format.

I think it's time for a change at the top, Bettman needs to go.

The B's placed Taylor Hall on LTIR then take on Bertuzzi's salary.

I'm sure it's on the up and up; don't expect to see Hall suited up for Game 1 of the playoffs.

Bertuzzi is a guy I thought fit NJD perfectly. Bruins are going to be…a…bear, lol.

Man, the East is nuts this year. 5/6 teams that are arguably better than anyone in the West right now.

This trading deadline could push the balance of two conferences back to the West some, the old guard teams of the past few years in the East are all going in, throwing assets and prospects and destroying cap space, win or lose they are going to fill the ramifications of this past few weeks in the next few years. In the meantime the West is filling up with young prospects and draft picks.

Change 'for' to 'until'? Apparently, you're allowed to exceed the cap in the playoffs, just not the regular season.

I'd say next 4 with the fourth being against Washington. But yeah, they're all pretty much must wins if we have a shot at the playoffs.

Does that get reshuffled each round?

I forget how it used to be.
Yeah the teams were re-seeded after the first round so that the highest ranked team in each conference always played the lowest ranked team.

Personally I prefer the current format because I think it has potential to foster more intense rivalries by creating more divisional matchups. It also allows for a true bracket throughout the playoffs. The downside is a conference final between division rivals is very rare because you would need a wild card team to finish in the right spot to be placed in the other division's bracket, and then they would need to beat the top team in that division and pull off another upset in the second round.

I'm willing to sacrifice that though for the current format. I would just prefer doing away with the wild card spots so there can be true division champions, but I understand doing the wild cards to mitigate the lack of parity between divisions.

Also as I've mentioned before, it wasn't really a true 1-8 format because the division winners were automatically ranked 1-3. Essentially the format was the division winners made the playoffs along with 5 wild card teams. Now we have the top 3 in each division make the playoffs with 2 wild card teams.

Like TBL with Kucherov. It's shady.
These teams aren't adding depth players, they're adding top end talent and salary that they wouldn't be able to fit.

I much prefer the 1-8. You should be rewarded for regular season play and winning the division.

The whole move to current format was because they thought the bracket thing would catch on. Least according to Brooksie

Looks like Domi going to the Stars. Would have liked him on the Devils. Now go get Lawson Crouse please.

Hmm, well then that ain’t good. Lol

Where did you hear that? Haven’t heard anything like that, in fact he won the Coyotes “good guy” award in 2019.

Through the years it’s come up
More than once. “ not a good fit” How many teams has he been on already

All that talent and Galante can’t coach his team how to breakout of their own end

The reward for regular season play isn't that much different. The division winners play the wild card teams, who are usually the bottom teams in the playoffs. People hated the old way for a long time because the winner of the Southeast division would always get the 3 seed even though they often had something like the 6th most points in the conference, and sometimes they would have home ice advantage even though they played a team with a better record than them.

Top heavy team. Trouba and FOX getting many more minutes than other defensemen.

Hey Dawson Mercer has the most points now in his draft class, before tonight's game, he accomplished this with 53 fewer games than the player who went first. I have to Laf 😆.

Miller will be back for them. They will figure it out at some point. Too talented

Quite night. I listened to one of the many NJD podcast, and the Calgary Flames were named as the team to watch. Top name was Ritchie, maybe Zadorov.

I like the idea of Crouse, but since he has not been mentioned and GM Bill Guerin is shopping him, any thoughts on Jordan Greenway at 6'6".
