The coach didn't miss the PKs.
That's true, but coaches have far more impacts on the games than the PKs and there's zero doubt we simply weren't as good in the run of play in our 4 games, so the coach has to take some of that blame, especially when it's the first time, ever, that we didn't at least get to the semis.

Just FYI. Andonovski's contract expires with the conclusion of the World Cup. I think it is a foregone conclusion that he is gone. Does anyone disagree?

So, singing the anthem is now required in your opinion? And if they don't sing would you advocate killing them, like our friend toby, or maybe just beating the crap out of them and kicking them off the team?

Every one of those players worked their asses off and loved playing for the USA, as they've all said, even if they didn't conform to your patriotism test - if you watched all the post-game interviews, every one of them was devastated and in tears or close to it (including Rapinoe). It's actually possible to love this country and still think this country can do better, especially with regard to racial and gender inequities. Where was all your outrage (and the outrage from the rest of the CE troglodytes) in 2015 and 2019?

IMO, we're out because we had a lousy coach, who didn't put the team in the best position to win and the rest of the world is catching up (but even with that, we dominated Sweden today and would've likely won except for an amazing performance by their keeper). And yes, we probably should've sat Rapinoe if she wasn't 100%, but not having one of the best players in the world on the team, even if only as a sub, would've been crazy, just like we had Carli play mostly as a sub in 2019 at a similar age to Rapinoe this year. Yes, the same Carli Lloyd who had this to say about Rapinoe in 2019:

"I was super happy for my teammates and happy for Megan (Rapinoe), who put the team on her back, and for several other players," Lloyd said. "It was great to see, and I'm happy that I could still have been a part of it."

https://www.usatoday.com/story/spor...-carli-lloyd-world-cup-worst-time/3987627002/
Horrible comparison. Carli was one of the best if not the best player on that 2019 team. Scoring 3 goals as a sub for 6 of 7 games. She didn't deserve to be a sub then and she let everyone know that before and after.

Clown face used to be one of the best, but she is clearly not even close to being a competent player at this level right now, and she knows it. If anyone, like herself thought otherwise, where are her statements like this one...

"There's no denying it," Lloyd told ESPN. "I deserved to be on that field that whole World Cup, but I wasn't. And I think I've grown as a person, as a player. It sucked. It absolutely sucked."

From same article you cherry picked quote from.

She essentially was the one player that in like 10 minutes or whatever it was that cost us the game vs Carli who was a key player to us winning the cup in 2019 even as a sub.

Would be nice if we could get back to talking about soccer, although the trolls will likely still be here for another day or two. Anyway, I found it very interesting after the match when Rob Stone said Horan was our best player in the tourney and Lalas immediately cut him off and said no way, Naomi Girma was our best player - and both Lloyd and Hingst nodded in agreement. Given we only gave up one goal I can see how they would think that.

Naomi was a wall. She maintained possession and distributed the ball well. She is a special player.

I didn't say Carli didn't play well in that WC - I was simply referring to the fact that selecting an older player who is still playing well and using that player as a sub is not unusual, which is why I think people saying Rapinoe shouldn't have been on the team are overreacting. She had a great season in 2022 and an ok season in 2023, due to injury. She did not perform very well, though, at this WC, which I've said.

Only the people with rudimentary understanding of the game would say that Horan was the best player for the US.

Having not seen the team play under him except these last three games, I don’t feel I have a good enough sample to form an opinion about him.

I guess no one here saw Trump acting a fool during the National Anthem at his Super Bowl party on 2/2/20. Now that was disrespectful but I’m sure his followers will find a reason to excuse him.

I get what you're saying, but to be fair, if not for Musovic's fingertips barely deflecting Horan's shot today, she would've had 2 goals, including the gamewinner today, and a case could've been made for her, given the importance of scoring goals.

In the game this morning, I was most impressed with Dunn, Rodman and Williams. Girma was good. Horan didn’t really stand out to me today. The midfield today was much improved over the prior two games.

Watching the end of game replay team is soft. The lost before the pks. You could see it in their eyes. They didn’t believe they they were going to win. Even with Sweden begging them to take it.

Clean house. Team is trash from coaching on down.

And cut their salaries. They didn’t earn **** besides embarrassment .

Would have to ask: Did the coach really get to pick "his team" or did he "inherit" some of it? Will this failure to further advance lead to more of a change in player personnel rather than to the coaching staff? Have to think you start with the players first in terms of skill and chemistry.

She had been injured. She picked up a calf injury on June 10, which was the last NWSL game in which she appeared. At the time, it was projected she would miss a couple of weeks. That took them to training camp. That was the reason why she hadn't been playing much.

Her club team OL Reign has played 15 matches. Rapinoe has played in 9 of them, 7 as a starter, 2 as a sub. Considering her injury, and her time on national team duty including friendlies, this seems about right.
What was the reason for her barely playing in every pre World Cup match? Because she sucks. Stop making excuses. She looked out of shape, slow, not to mention emaciated. She’s selfish and US soccer rostered her to avoid woke push back.

Just for ***** and giggles, I googled "What Megan Rapinoe's teammates think about her". I found ONE strong criticism - from Hope Solo, who was not exactly Ms. Congeniality in the locker room herself. I also found mild criticism from Carli Lloyd, who said that while she respects and supports Rapinoe, she found her protests distracting.

This was more than offset by a ton of positive comments from both her USWNT teammates and her club teammates.
Yeah, because speaking out against a hair on fire woke movement leader would NEVER get you crushed in every approved public media.

Swimmers on the team with the Thomas thing were directly threatened about voicing displeasure. Think it isn't made clear you'll pay a price?

Once enough women who are done with this nonsense speak out and support each other this idiocy will end. They BY FAR outnumber the the attention ***** freaks. Speaking of the purple haired disaster, she is on my TV in her google ad as I type. Won't be buying any pixels.

No. She’s not a great player anymore and hasn’t been in years. Any honest person who watched any qualifying games or any tournament could see they. Stop making it excuses for her.

It’s ironic that you don’t see that you are part of the problem. People have every right to complain about her woke agenda because she stinks and shouldn’t be on the team. Much less considered a leader. Instead of acknowledging that and moving on you name call other posters, bring up the CE board, and try to sound superior.
Let’s be honest if ANY other player showed up looking so out of shape, so technically poor, and basically emaciated with zero muscle you’d call it out. But you have an inherent need to protect the wokest of libs
Just be honest, she stinks and has for a few years.

Time for the ladies to get a pay raise with that performance. At least they got to the round of. 16. 🤦‍♂️. How long before Rapinoe is the coach of USNWT ?
Did the men get a pay increase in years they did not win the World Cup?

She is not the first nor will she be the last great player that coaches played when the player should have been replaced.

This is true. And it’s one of the reasons he should lose his job. But I still believe he played her not because she deserved to but he had to. Why didn’t she play in game 2? It was obvious in game 1 she stunk. And if it was for Pk’s as some have alluded, then why at 25 min to go? Why not at 2 min like other subs?

None of us could know that from the information we currently have.

If he is fired for performance he might say he was forced to play certain players.

Hand over the heart was what I've been stating but posted this article to show how irate plenty were with this team. Rapino in tears as your example was comical. She's been nothing but anti American. If she wasn't 100% then she should have said so and not played or taken the PK, selfish on her part. I'll just add you to my clueless list on this topic. Not liking a person who bullied teammates into kneeling makes me a CE prick I guess. Woke this.

How many of their non World Cup games have you watched? I’ve watched almost every one since the last World Cup. If you’ve watched, can you point to any stretch of time where she looked like she belonged on this team?

Totally. And as someone who played goalie, Musovic's fingertips must be incredibly strong, because at least one of those shots...most of the time getting only that much of your hand on it wouldn't be enough to push it wide of the goal.

Vlatko doesn't have to be fired. His contract expires at the end of the World Cup. He is gone unless he is rehired, which would shock me.

She looked like the feeble little kid with the headband (in her case, blue hair), who sucks and drags the team down but draws attention to herself nevertheless. Usually, their dad is the coach.
The laughing-to-crying bit was solid entertainment, however.

Well said! Putting Rapinoe in the game at such a critical point in time and allowing her to take a PK is so typical of everything that’s gone wrong with this country. Did the coach think he was going to create a Rapinoe woke moment for the world to see? Was he under strict instructions to get her in the game? Who in their right mind would put her on the field?

Your are right. Nobody knows. We will just go with the assumption that the coach wanted to roster and play a player who stinks. A player that is obviously passed her prime. A player who isn’t in shape and looks like she hasn’t seen a gym in 3 years.

You know the media would have loved to make her the face of a win. And she had her chances. She had two chances for our backs, multiple corners and a PK and she failed miserably with every one. It’s actually funny, if you read articles about the game most fail to even mention her missed PK but mention the others. Espn changed her game rating from a miserable 2 to NR. Curios

She couldn’t even reach the goal on corners or execute a set piece. And she completely misplayed that long ball down near the goal. The whole thing is a f’in joke.
