NWS Mount Holly seems to be giving in. Previously they forecast for my Cherry Hill zip code that the switch from all snow would happen at 1 p.m. Sunday -- now it's 10 a.m. Sunday. Their snow forecast is also a little smaller -- 1 to 2 inches Saturday night, then an accumulation of up to 6-10 inches of snow and sleet on Sunday.

There is also a new briefing from them, issued at 2:30. They say that "sleet and freezing rain chances continue to
increase for the I-95 corridor southward into Delmarva, increasing potential for some isolated power outages." Their previous forecast of 12-18 inches is now for only north of a line extending roughly from Flemington to Long Branch. South of there, it will be, they say, 8-12 inches, with 6-8 in Cape May. Not surprisingly, what is driving the reduction is the increased anticipation of a changeover from snow to snow/sleet/freezing rain.

They still see close to a 90% chance of 6 or more inches of snow in Philadelphia, but only a 66% chance of 8 or more, and a 35% chance of 12 or more.

Their ice forecast is for accumulations of 0.1 to 0.3. Winds gusting up to 20-30 miles per hour increase the potential for fallen trees and power lines. They continue to forecast a long stretch of cold weather after that.https://www.weather.gov/media/phi/current_briefing.pdf

It’s going to be all about the initial thump of snow. We’re likely all going to change to sleet and possibly freezing rain - but how much snow falls before that is what to monitor.

00z models coming in with a very heavy initial thump of snow. So even with the change over - I think someone in central Jersey can see a foot or more if the heavy bands find them, the intensity of snow for the first several hours is going to be insane

I like nothing better than seeing snow weenies cry. They completely disregard the fact that lives are going to be disrupted, roads are going to be unpassable and there will be nowhere to park for weeks if they get all the snow they want

This! There are people who HAVE to get out and get to work…ie health care workers among others. It’s not fun.
