So there’s no other big ten program that has done much more with much less.
Umm we haven’t done anything Al… We’ve won 1 conference home game since before Covid.

Genuinely, are we going to need to arrange wellness checks on RutgersAl the day Schiano gets fired? Koepka asked for one on Chamblee last week, it’s really just concern

I don’t care what rivals rates kids.

Isaiah Pacheco, Mohamed Sanu, Devin McCourty, Kevin Malast, Ray Rice, Jason McCourty, Darnell Stapleton, Tiquan Underwood, Duron Harmon, Clark Harris were examples of 2 and 3 star kids with nfl measurables and potential who either played in the NFL or are currently active.

Schiano 2.0 example: 1 kid

Pacheco.

1 example to prove your point that Schiano builds his roster by “developing 2-3 star kids into 4-5 stars players”

1 example

Well done Al

Again not every player is demanding huge sums. You can attract good talent without breaking the bank is the point Al.

Miles was a freshmen all American at FIU. He was a late bloomer and had academic issues. That is why he ended up at FIU.

Surefire impact players that can help us are commanding NIL. Sure you can go with other players, but the risk is higher, and they might not meet expectations like Willie last year, who struggled. Nevertheless That’s what we’re forced to do. A Div 2 Receiver is our WR1 and it looks like a Maine transfer might be our TE1. Will they work out? I sure hope so, for our sake.

Schiano just started in 2020. Takes time for kids to mature. Tyreem Powell and Max Melton were 3* , in Schiano’s first class, and will have an opportunity this year to be All American candidates and Day 1 draft picks.

This is getting silly (actually it was silly from post #1)

You name 2 kids (not a roster - which is necessary to succeed but 2 kids) and say they “will have an opportunity to be all Americans” whatever the hell that means

Really?

So we need a roster full of talented kids to compete and you point out the POTENTIAL of 2 kids?

That’s all you got to prove your point that Schiano 2.0 “develops 2-3 stars into 4-5 star players”?

Nice

Ray rice and Devon McCourtey were also recruited nearly 2 decades ago when recruiting rankings and ‘stars’ were in their infancy. The scouting over the last 20 years has improved tremendously. Beyond this there is do denying the correlation of strong recruiting and results.

The excuse making for your husband is getting laughable at this point

Just as it took time last time to get our NFL pipeline started, it is also taking time, this time around. By next year, we will be sending a steady stream of players to the NFL via the draft.

There is still a skill needed to find and identify the right players, and that’s what Schiano excels at. The staff does it’s own analysis, which is why we are recruiting North Carolina, and stealing recruits from your boy.

I can’t believe no one picked up my post above where I called Al out for saying Rutgers is a “2 -3 star program”.

What a ridiculously loser comment

I honestly can’t believe he thinks so lowly of Rutgers / that he thinks our bar is so low!!!

It’s sad honestly that a diehard like him (and I’ll give him that) thinks that Rutgers is so unappealing

I happen to think he is totally wrong.

Will we ever consistently get classes that compete with OSU, Michigan and Penn state ? No.

But I think there is no excuse for us not to be a solid middle-of-the road Big10 team (which is NOT accomplished by recruiting solely 2-3 star kids)

If you want 4-5 star kids, pony up. I’ll be happy to donate $10K, if I can find 199 others to match. This will give us an NIL warchest of $2M and improve our chances to wi during the 2024 season. In or out?

Schiano only started in 2020, and it takes time for kids to mature. To expect a Schiano kid to be an nfl kid is ridiculous.

But that’s your point Al: that Schiano develops 2-3 star into 4-5 players

And when asked to point out ONE example from modern times you say it’s “ridiculous” (to expect that your point can be proven)

So you name a handful of guys from nearly 2 decades ago

I mean we aren’t going to load up on 4* recruits, I don’t think anyone expects that. My biggest issue with Schiano is his inability to coach as evidence by what we saw last year. You don’t need a team full of 4-5* kids to run a 2 min drill with 1:33 left on the clock and 3 timeouts vs a team with 5 starters suspended. You don’t need a team full of 4-5* kids to cross your own 40 vs Maryland and not get beat 37-0. That boils down to coaching and gameplanning.

As for Al, he somehow live under the delusion that if he can make enough posts in an attempt to buy schiano enough time that he lucks into a 6 win season and somehow resets the clock for his husband. You have to understand, Al has literally wrote that he believes in his heart that no other individual can succeed at Rutgers. He’s soo bought into Greg that we could literally have the ability to hire nick saban, and would pass on saban in favor of schiano. It’s pure delusion, there’s not a rationale conversation to be had. It’s just a fun distraction some slow days at work just to see how ridiculous Al will sound

Yea I stopped trying to use logic and reality. The thing is if you are going to whiff on high school (very little 4-5 star talent) recruits then you have to be very active in the portal. And as of yet Schiano 2.0 has not users the portal as effectively and efficiently as others.

Because our value proposition isn’t as strong as competitors. Schiano was recruiting 4 and 5 stars at Miami and Ohio State. What changed? The level of alumni support for the football program.

That’s not why he can’t get recruits. And that’s not the value prop. The value prop is playing for a winner and playing an exciting style of football. Until he can show he can win with an offense that can put points on the board we will have a problem attracting skilled athletes in the offensive side of the ball.

The iirony is that the main argument given at the time for HC Schiano was that “ONLY Schiano” could load us up on 4 star recruits. And he would do it faster than any other option.

Interesting how now the recruiting isn’t his fault and he can’t over come the obstacles at Rutgers.

If he isn’t being paid for his recruiting abilities, why exacty is he the HC?
It’s not his offensive coaching abilities.

So if HC Schiano can’t recruit anymore, what value is he adding over other coaches?
The whole reason many said Schiano was the ONLY option was for his specific recruiting ability to instantly get elite recruits to Rutgers.

We lost 37-0 to Maryland last year because without a functional offense last year, the team was spent, during its last game.

This year, the coaching has been significantly improved, and the talent has been improved, so we should see significant improvement against teams like Maryland and Minnesota.
Lol you do realize that both teams had played 11 games previously?

Prior to the game Rutgers defense had played 723 snaps. Maryland defense had played 802 snaps.

How despite playing more plays in the 11 previous game was Marylands defense not spent yet Rutgers defense was spent? Is Rutger’s strength and conditioning that bad?

Free isn’t the right “term”. The bottom line is a turnaround wasn’t doable without a decent QB. I don’t care who the coach is.

Schiano went out and got Wimsatt who was the best rated QB recruits in program history. So far he hasn’t lived up to his recruiting rating. That may be on the coaches, but it also may not be. It didn’t matter who coached Rettig. He simply didn’t live up to his rating. It happens - could be that Wimsatt would be a star by now somewhere else but it could also be the case that he simply did not pan out as a QB.

We didn’t go out and get a QB this year and Schiano will take heat for it. But the fact is he was damned if he did as well as if he didn’t for this season. He had to stick with Wimsatt. Could not afford to give up on him as it would send a terrible message to future recruits. The bottom line is if Wimsatt is what he was last season, we’re going to struggle to compete. The defense should be solid. With Sam Brown back we probably don’t need him to even be “good”, the question is whether Wimsatt’s arm can be accurate enough to simply be a decent game manager. He’s shown nothing so far to indicate his arm can be reliable even in the short game. That’s the concern.

Having said this - we could potentially be awful this year almost entirely because of the QB situation and then turn the trajectory the following year simply by upgrading that one position. If Wimsatt doesn’t produce this year, he won’t be the QB the following season in my opinion. Schiano will have one more chance to show progress with a new guy behind center. I agree with Plum - he would have to show progress in 2024 but the team wouldn’t necessarily need to be spectacular just moving in the right direction. 2025 will be crunch time.

Sure, We would love to be a winning program and recruit well.

But Rutgers is not a winning program. And to put points on the board, we need more talent to build an exciting offense. How do we build it? To build it, we either recruit additional impact players via NIL, or we wait for enough high school kids to develop. There is literally no other path.

Or we build the football Fieldhouse. Supposedly it is being designed but I have fears that it is going to be cancelled due to escalating costs. Which would allow us to get more 4*. This is what Maryland has done and why they’ve left us in the dust.

there is precedence, where Rutgers improved its capital infrastructure and saw a resultant rise in its recruiting results. Towards the end of 2004, Hale Center was expanded.

In 2005, We got a class of Ray Rice, Courtney Greene, Devin McCourty, Jason McCourty, among others. This was a class which elevated Rutgers Football, and helped us reach bowl games from ‘05 to ‘09.

Rutgers has always had a problem recruiting because the program has been undercapitalized, relative to the competition.

But in the meantime, we do the best we can. Our ‘24 Class is shaping up to
Be a MONSTER class with 3 star players who will ultimately make a difference, and we will have an offense which puts points in the board.

We won 1 big ten home game in 5 years yet sold out like 4 games last year. The fanbase, program and U is ready to win. The results have to show up now. If Schiano wins 2, 1, or 0 games this year, he’s gone

Agree with all of this. In ‘23 and ‘24, we will show progress, but not sure the wins will be what we want them to be, though hope springs eternal. Wimsatt’s performance is an important X factor for this season.

If Wimsatt steps up to the plate and produces, we will have a winning season. Hopefully 200 yards passing per game isn’t too much to ask for.

Wow!!!!

Just wow!!!!

This comment speaks volumes @rutgersal

Honestly, all this time I thought you were a hopeless optimist, but you’re really the opposite.

This comment is utter, total ********!!

You really set the bar so low for Rutgers?!?!

Rutgers is “2 - 3 star program”

Really!!?!

I would expect to hear such a comment from the most pessimistic anti-RU troll.

Not from a supposedly enthusiastic RU fan

We are in the Big 10!!!!

There is absolutely NO REASON we shouldn’t have a recruiting class made up mostly of 4 stars and high-level 3s with the some 5 stars mixed in.

By saying Rutgers is a “2-3 star program” you are saying Rutgers is a dog-**** program where no coach could consistently attract 4 star recruits.

Really?!?

As a “2-3 star program” you obviously think RU will forever be in the Big10 gutter because that’s what gutter programs in power5 conferences do (ie only attract 2-3 star kids).

Wow Al!!!

I honestly never thought you thought so lowly of Rutgers !!

I am truly stunned by this …. from all people .
This is an absolutely insane take. You think we basically should have a Penn State/Michigan level class every year? You realize most Big 10 programs have classes mostly made of 3 stars with some 4 stars. Some things go beyond coaching and unfortunately program prestige is one of them.

Correct. Unfortunately, if Wimsatt doesn’t fix his accuracy issues on safe 5 yard passes this season could be an ugly one regardless of any progress made in other areas.

Certainly. The point I’m trying to make is if Wimsatt is materially improved, I think we will have a pretty good year. That’s the roadblock.

I see it going one of two ways - A) Wimsatt is much better and we’re at worst a fringe bowl team or B) Wimsatt is about what he was last season and we have a rough one.

I don’t see a scenerio where Wimsatt is reliable and we’re still flat out awful being that likely. But then, I firmly believe we would’ve made a bowl last year with a QB who was as good as the 2021-22 versions of Noah. We didn’t have that. The same is true this year. Wimsatt needs to be at least as good as those versions of Noah. Can he do that? We’ll find out.

You are confusing me with someone else.

I never said such a thing in 2004.

(1) in 2004 I went under a different user name. So wasn’t me.

(2) I was a HUGE Schiano fan during Schiano 1.0. So the comment you attribute to me never would have even crossed my mind

(3) there was not a happier RU fan than me when Schiano was brought back. It was elated!! I was firmly in the category of RU fan that thought: “there is no one else on this planet that can get in done at Rutgers like Schiano can… he already did it here before …and now we’re in the big10!”

However the lack of results in Schiano 2.0 has me seriously concerned.

While I am not convinced yet he won’t get it done my doubts are growing big time

Casting me as a longtime Schiano hater is just a lie Al.

An accurate assessment: I am a long time HUGE Schiano fan that has NOW become seriously worried due to lack of progress and the embarrassing ***-beatings by even mediocre Big10 teams .

Well that’s not happening so we don’t have to worry.

He’s talking about BIG games. But he’s wrong. There’s no chance Greg will be booted if he wins 2 BIG games, unless he wins only 3 games total (Wagner being the 3rd).

How many will he win this year ?

I think he read it quickly and thought the post was talking about overall wins not BIG wins. Doesn’t matter as Schiano probably won’t be canned unless Wagner is our only win. There’s no chance he’d be canned with 4 or more wins (any combo).
