Anyone else found LSU's obsession over Will Wade bizarre?

The guy has been out of the first weekend once in his career and LSU acts like they've hired John Wooden. Good coach but the exuberance is wild for a guy with a pretty thin resume in a changed landscape that doesn't compliment what used to be his cutting edge.

Didn’t they fire him for cheating a few years ago?

Exact same post could be said about their football coach too.

I have found it odd as well.

Cult of personality. LSU is going full blown villain university and Wade is unabashedly scummy. That makes him endearing to that fanbase.

Yes I think this is more about sticking it to the man.

This would be like firing Josh Heupel and rehiring Jeremy Pruitt. The only difference is they fired Wade before the it hit the fan.

They have been that pretty much their entire history.

There is a stick it to the establishment component. And, I know we’ve talked about this before, at some of these football centric programs, the basketball needs to not be boring. And Will ain’t boring……. Matt McMahon, bless his heart, didn’t move a needle at a place that needs a Dale Brown or Will Wade type.

I find LSU bizarre period. In fact, the whole state is "just different "

Id say making the playoff with Ole Miss is a bigger deal than Wade making 1 sweet 16 at LSU. I know he wasnt on the sidelines but they won 2 games in the playoffs, he'd at least had them past their round 1 matchup. Drew

It's a different country entirely.

I figured a big piece of it is they know he’s on board with “how they do things down there”…as in, they know he’s cool with embezzling from the local children’s hospital to fund his program. Not everyone can go quite that far to “just win baby”.

No, Pete Golding took Ole Miss to the playoffs and won 2 games. Lane Kiffin has never made it to the playoffs and he certainly hasn’t won any playoff games.

One of my favorite old memories is when we were thumping that ass and he pouted during the game basically laying down in front of the media table. reminded me of when Richie Tenenbaum took of his shoes during a tennis match.

I think it’s clearly obvious they want to get to the top in athletics. I think it’s just as obvious they think the best formula to accomplish that ie to surround yourself with rather slimy coaches that live in the gray area or even lower places. The LSU administration is apparently really comfortable doing that.
