Hurley contact with ref

Anyone have more context on it? Thoughts? Is this just where we are in 2026? Would love to hear a discussion about what appears to clearly be impermissible contact with a referee. Have a buddy telling me it all cool because Hurley was "amped up". Maybe. But that would for sure be a cultural shift.

I honestly think he was blacked out. Its not like he was arguing a call or even talking to the ref. Would have been the dumbest ending OAT to call a tech and hand Duke the win with .4 seconds left after the previous 10 seconds.

Do we now have to carve out exceptions for when contact with a referee is ok? Who wouldn't have hated for the game to end on a T but doesnt that fall on Hurley and his inability to control himself? At the very least dont you have to suspend him for at least one game if not remainder of the season?

Im glad that Duke lost but if there was ever a time a coach could cost his team the game, that was it. It’s a clear cut technical and can’t even be argued otherwise. Timing of it is tough to call but it’s 100 percent a technical.

Going up and intentionally making physical contact with the ref to show him up in the end is about a 1000 miles over the line. You don't call that a T and you've set the standard that if the game is big enough, refs are fair game for that level of absurdity without concern for any consequences. And I say that as one who enjoyed watching the shot go in. Even if it's a really big sportball game, you still need to be able to demonstrate a basic level of humanity as crazy as it sounds.

Never seen anything like that in my life. I hate Duke but my gosh Hurley is such a hard guy to cheer for. Incredible coach but he is a puke. I will be a huge Illini fan this coming weekend.

Yeah, hell of a finish to the game and would have definitely been awful for his team to lose on foul shots from the tech, but you can't allow a coach to go forehead-to-forehead with a ref in a show of intimidation. That is completely over the line and he should have cost his team the game there. The circumstances (score, time left, stage) don't dictate the boundaries.

You've never seen a coach touch a ref without getting a technical? I dont really think its that serious. Duke should have inbounded the ball off of the players and coaches who were standing on the court and given the refs no choice but to call a T on uconn.

I could see the rationale for him being fined.

Just looked like a total a$$hole move by him. Or normal for Hurley.

If the ref didnt have a problem i guess no big deal. I cant believe the Duke Refs didnt give him at least 2 t's so the could win for sure.
