If I’m Beard, I would want…

…a fan base that is not happy, upset, pissed, etc with this season. …a fan base that is committed to a winner in basketball…ps: Ole Miss seems to be …better players and that’s on him, staff, collective, etc…gotta figure it out this offseason. …what else you guys got?

He's got to recruit good HS players and involve them more with early PT.. Murrell and Brakefield were Kermit Davis signees... Klafke and Pinkins are the only Beard HS signees to play more than a couple of minutes in a game the three years Beard's been HC.. Last year's signee, along with Klafke, John Bol is gone, as are 2024 signees Robert Cowherd and Rashaud Marshall.. Bundalo and Jordan are freshmen, but will they be here next year and contribute? Beard has come up a bit short with transfer guys like Moussa Cisse, Jamarion Sharp, and Austin Nunez.. Also factor in Brandon Murray.. AJ Storr has been a contributor, but the fact that he’s played at several HS and colleges throughout his career doesn’t bode well for building a solid team foundation.. Giffa and Kamardine are basically one and done plug-ins.. again, OM missing out on the solid foundation building.. Beard and his assistants have to be better at assessing talent and how good of a fit are they for building a team of leaders instead of a team of followers..

The high school piece is what's crazy to me. He's signed, star-ranking-wise, four of the highest-ranked recruits in school history the last three years and so far just has Patton Pinkins to show for it

Klafke is coming around. The Jordan redshirt is baffling I can’t be convinced that he isn’t better than some of the guys we are running out there each game. I am in the beard is a great coach camp if he’s here next season I expect the team to get much better results

Good thing about basketball is Beard et al can turn it around quickly with a handful of key players found in the offseason but easier said than done. Got have a mix of HS and transfers that pan out, gel, etc

We all hope we get “much better” but to say we “get much better results” next year seems optimistic because I don’t know what you’re basing it on. We have to finish 5-1 — we know that’s VERY unlikely — to finish the regular season 16-15 and be a game over .500. We still have games at A&M and Auburn plus Florida and Vanderbilt in Oxford. We do have Lsu and S Carolina, the only teams presently below us in conference. We have to win two more to jump the win total in Kermit and AK’s last seasons.

I’m basing it on beards track record of success as a head coach and the OM commitment to the program. Investment was not the issue I believe this roster was expensive. Also following beard for some years he’s a guy that will work relentlessly to correct this. The sky is certainly falling on this season but that can be changed in one offseason in the transfer era.

I'm going to ask about Jordan specifically next time we get Beard

Nobody has said Tylis isn’t better than some of the guys who are playing. Were you baffled when Eli Manning redshirted?

That was a totally different era! Redshirting is very different now that players are paid.

I think they redshirted him because they thought Dia, Scott, Chest and Cassia was a strong front court, when the exact opposite has proven true.

I am reminded of an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond when they are talking about Robert, Raymond's 6-8 brother, playing junior high basketball and the father says "you were 6-5 in junior high, you couldn't get a rebound every now and then?" I look at some of our guys and think "you couldn't get a rebound every now and then?"

Easy, highly paid players aren’t going somewhere to be redshirted. I think Jorden may not be what they thought he was.

I'm not sure I agree with that assumption. Deuce Knight comes to mind. he transferred to sit out a year. And burn a year of eligibility. Why wouldn't a freshman do the same thing? Get paid to sit and learn? Seems like a sweet deal to me. As to Jordan, I think you're probably right on him. I wonder if the redshirt was planned all along.

Individual good players do not matter if they can't play together as a team.

If you can answer a very basic question, then you have an idea how a team might perform next year.. That question is "Who are we counting on for production next year?" Dia, Storr, Giffa, and Kamardine will all be gone... The other transfers? Koren Johnson, Corey Chest, James Scott, Travis Perry, Augusto Cassia?? Who knows if they'll all be back.. It's a bitch to expect a productive season with guys you can depend on when you have to replace 8-10 guys currently on the team.. As I said in my previous post, we don't know how freshmen Bundalo and Jordan truly feel about being part of this program next year.. When you have that much uncertainty, you've got a problem..

a fan base that doesn't continually spew vitriol about the HC - there's no doubt, this year has been incredibly disappointing but some of the stuff hurled at Beard by some posters is bunk.

Seeing a Sweet 16 program crash and burn to this extent a season later is rare. Beard and staff created the problem and are being paid very good money to solve it. Beard ironically gets a $400,000 bonus on May 1. Wholeheartedly hope they can solve it, but my common sense tells me it won't be easy in a very competitive portal market. Good players don't flock to bad teams in this era. Good players have multiple options.

They might if we overpay - which creates another problem.

Then that's a scouting and development issue because that's two Top 100 players in a row you got absolutely nothing out of and really three of four if we're counting Bundalo

My biggest concern is the guys we sign seem to defend and rebound better at their other schools. Mouse Cisse comes to mind and James Scott this year.

You completely missed the point. Tylis is better than several other current players. Eli was better than the guy who was playing. That has nothing to do with getting paid.

BS. He’s probably better at this point than they thought he would be.

Beard scoffed at the asking price for bonafide scorers then ended up overpaying mediocre players later. Lesson learned go pay the guard who creates offense.
